FaZe Rug—whose real name is Brian Awadis—and venture studio VO/D launched 1UP Candy in May 2023. Its first product, the Sour Gummy Challenge, turned an extremely sour gummy into a social challenge for fans. By 2025, the brand had expanded into freeze-dried and chewy candy sold through retail partners.
Who founded 1UP Candy?
1UP Candy was co-founded by Brian Awadis, known online as FaZe Rug, and venture studio VO/D. VO/D described the company as an “experiential candy company,” with products designed to give people an activity to share as well as something to eat. In launch coverage, Awadis said he was drawn to developing candy that was “designed to be fun and social.”
What was the original Sour Gummy Challenge?
The first product, launched in 2023, was a pack of extremely sour gummies. The launch challenge asked participants to eat three gummies and keep a straight face for three minutes. People who posted their experience with the specified hashtag and Cash App $Cashtag could enter a prize promotion.
GamesBeat reported that the product launched at $18 and that a Cash App Card presale discount ran from May 17 through May 20, 2023. These were launch-era terms, not a current price or offer. The same coverage said each packet included a neutralizer and reported a brand warning for people with soft teeth, sensitive gums, or gastrointestinal disorders to avoid the product; this is the launch warning, not an independent medical assessment.

How did 1UP Candy expand?
According to a May 2025 interview with Nosh, 1UP began as a direct-to-consumer brand with one product and later expanded into retail. Its reported Walmart freeze-dried range included Gummy Bites, Lemon Tops, Sour Worms, Watermelons, Peach Rings, and Crunchy Sour Strips. Nosh also reported Sour Burst Chews in Circle K and the introduction of Mexican-inspired Chamoy Gummies in watermelon, mango, and strawberry flavors.
These products offer different formats rather than a single version of the original challenge: freeze-dried pieces and strips are crunchy, while Sour Burst Chews and Chamoy Gummies are chewy. The cited coverage does not establish a tested taste ranking or a current price comparison.

Where can you buy 1UP Candy?
At the time of its May 2025 interview, Nosh reported that the brand had stopped selling directly through its website and directed shoppers to retailers. A 1UP Candy company profile lists Walmart, Five Below, and Circle K; recent company posts also mention CVS. Retail listings and store inventory can change, and a retailer carrying the brand does not mean every location stocks every product. Check the retailer’s current listing or contact a nearby store for a specific flavor.

Nosh reported in May 2025 that 1UP Candy CEO Matt Weiss said the brand had generated over 1 billion TikTok impressions. That is a company-reported figure, not an independently audited measurement. Nosh also reported more than 12,000 retail doors at that time; Lunr Capital, which said it provided inventory financing at the start of the Walmart launch, separately reported full-chain Walmart distribution and 12,000 retail doors in June 2025. These are dated reports, not a verified current store count.
