At her October 2024 wedding in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, Amy Totty’s father, Neil Crossley, started down the aisle without her. A venue staff member stopped him before he reached the altar, and the pair then walked in together. The brief mix-up, which guests and the groom laughed at, helped ease the tension—and later made it into Crossley’s wedding speech.
Who was the father who walked down the aisle alone?
He was Neil Crossley, whose daughter Amy Totty was getting married in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, in October 2024. The Indian Express identifies the venue as Holmfirth Vineyard. BBC News reported on the incident on November 7, 2024, and The Indian Express covered the clip on November 10.
What happened during the ceremony?
Crossley began walking toward the groom without Totty beside him. Before he reached the altar, a venue staff member caught up and redirected him. Totty then joined her father, and they walked down the aisle together. Guests and the groom laughed at the moment, according to BBC News and The Indian Express.
Why did he walk without his daughter?
The accounts point to distraction and a misheard cue, rather than establishing a single proven cause. BBC News framed the story around Crossley’s nerves about giving his father-of-the-bride speech. He recalled thinking, “I was thinking, nothing can go wrong with this part,” before adding, “Little did I know what was about to happen.”

Totty gave a more specific explanation to People, in an account republished by Yahoo Entertainment: “It was just pure miscommunication between my dad and the staff. He thought they told him to walk when they had actually said wait for me!”
What happened after the mix-up?
The incident helped break the ice at the ceremony. Totty said it came at a useful moment because she was trying not to cry, and her father’s mistake helped her compose herself, according to BBC News and People/Yahoo Entertainment.

Crossley later included the episode in his reception speech. The Indian Express attributed this recollection to him speaking to The Yorkshire Post: “After the initial fumble, it just felt very funny to everyone, including myself. I even managed to sneak it into my father-of-the-bride speech at the reception afterwards.”
