F9: The Fast Saga is the ninth mainline Fast & Furious film, directed by franchise veteran Justin Lin and released in 2021. It brings Dom Toretto’s estranged brother Jakob back into the story, with Dom’s crew regrouping to confront a threat to their family. Expect outsized action and elaborate set pieces rather than strict realism.
What is Fast & Furious 9 about?
Universal’s spoiler-light synopsis sets up a conflict rooted in Dom Toretto’s outlaw past: his estranged brother Jakob returns as an elite assassin, and Dom’s crew reunites to settle an old score and stop a threat to their family. That premise puts family and the history between the brothers at the center without giving away the plot’s later turns.
Who made it, and who is in the cast?
Justin Lin directed the film. The credited ensemble includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren and Kurt Russell. The Festival de Cannes production information credits Daniel Casey and Lin with the screenplay, based on a story by Lin, Alfredo Botello and Casey.
What kind of movie should viewers expect?
The film leans into maximalist action and elaborate set pieces, with plausibility taking a back seat. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus describes it as going further over the top while Lin’s set-piece direction keeps the action moving; its audience summary likewise emphasizes wall-to-wall action over a believable story. How long is F9?
Runtime listings conflict. Universal’s current title page lists 2 hours 30 minutes, while a Peacock search result lists 2 hours 22 minutes. The available information does not establish whether the difference reflects a distinct cut, a territory-specific listing or a catalog error, so check the runtime attached to the specific edition or service you plan to watch.
Which home edition should you choose?
Universal lists digital, 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital, Blu-ray + DVD + Digital, and DVD editions. Its physical-edition listings identify the physical formats as Director’s Cut. Universal’s August 17, 2021 home-release announcement says the package includes the original theatrical cut, an extended Director’s Cut and more than an hour of bonus material, including a gag reel and behind-the-scenes features about stunts, cast and production.
