Maximillion Cooper is the British entrepreneur whom Gumball 3000 identifies as its founder and CEO. The company says he started the rally in 1999 after inviting friends on a European road trip, drawing on connections he had made in fashion, music and sport. Who is Maximillion Cooper?
Gumball 3000’s official biography says Cooper was born in England in 1972. It identifies him as the organization’s Founder and CEO. These biographical details come from the company’s own account.
The biography says Cooper studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins in London, then studied law and film at the University of Sussex. It describes his early career as including modeling representation by Elite, advertising campaigns for fashion brands, and racing with privateer McLaren and Porsche teams in Europe.
How did Cooper start Gumball 3000?
According to Gumball 3000’s account, Cooper invited friends on a European road trip in 1999 and organized parties along the way. He saw potential in bringing together people from his fashion, music and sports networks for an event that joined travel, cars and culture. The company presents that trip as the beginning of Gumball 3000.

Gumball’s biography also says the early rallies appeared on MTV and received coverage from GQ, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair. That is the organization’s retrospective account of its early profile.
Is Gumball 3000 a race?
No. Gumball 3000’s own homepage describes it as “It’s A Rally, Not A Race.” The distinction matters: the company frames the event around a shared journey and participant experience, rather than presenting it as a conventional competition. Cooper says the idea was for participants to have an adventure and an experience they would not forget.
The company describes Gumball 3000 more broadly as a lifestyle brand, saying it has taken thousands of supercars and entrants on journeys around the world. Its current homepage listing advertises applications for the 28th Annual Rally, a Seoul-to-Tokyo route in October 2027; event listings can change.

What does Cooper say Gumball 3000 is about?
