Which Fantastic Four movie turned 20?
The anniversary is for Tim Story’s 2005 film, not every screen adaptation of Marvel’s team. 20th Century Studios Japan lists its theatrical release in Japan as September 17, 2005, making September 17, 2025 the 20th anniversary in that territory. That is a Japan-specific release date, not a worldwide premiere date. 20th Century Studios Japan’s film listing also credits Tim Story as director and Mark Frost and Michael France as screenwriters.

The story follows Reed Richards as he organizes a space mission. Cosmic radiation changes the crew, and the resulting powers bring the four central characters together as the Fantastic Four. The film’s main cast was:
- Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic
- Jessica Alba as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman
- Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / Human Torch
- Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm / The Thing
- Julian McMahon as Victor von Doom

Where are the Fantastic Four cast now?
The cast’s later careers are not all documented here with current, consistently verified project details, so it would be misleading to present a career-by-career “where are they now” list. What can be stated reliably is that Gruffudd, Alba, Evans and Chiklis were the principal performers in both the 2005 film and its 2007 follow-up, as the AP retrospective records. That identifies their place in the franchise without implying that the 2005 film defines their careers.
How does the 2005 film compare with the 2025 Fantastic Four?
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a separate Marvel Studios film, released July 25, 2025. Its performers belong to that newer film, not the 2005 cast. Marvel’s official announcement named Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for the team’s principal roles; the official film page gives its release date. The useful distinction is between two film versions and their casting, not a ranking of the actors. The 2005 movie was directed by Tim Story; First Steps is a Marvel Studios production from 2025. The later film’s arrival also means the 2005 anniversary is a milestone for one specific adaptation, rather than the beginning or end of the characters’ screen history.

20th Century Studios Japan’s catalogue lists Japanese-market Blu-ray and DVD editions of Fantastic Four, both released June 3, 2016, as well as a three-film Blu-ray collection released August 3, 2016 that includes the 2005 title.
