Kate Scott—known in earlier coverage as Kate Abdo—was praised for moving smoothly through a brief post-match moment after Khabib Nurmagomedov declined her offered handshake. Reports linked his response to religious observance, but no direct statement from Khabib confirming his reason in this specific exchange has been reported in the cited coverage.
What happened after the Champions League final?
The exchange took place during CBS Sports’ post-match coverage of the UEFA Champions League final on May 31, 2025, in Munich. Paris Saint-Germain had just beaten Inter 5–0 to win the club’s first Champions League title. CBS Sports’ match report confirms the score and milestone.
Presenter Kate Scott, the name used for Kate Abdo in contemporaneous coverage, was on the panel with football pundits and guests when Khabib joined the broadcast. As the interaction ended, Scott offered him her hand. He did not take it; reports describe him placing a hand over his chest instead. Scott continued professionally. SPORTbible and Goal.com covered the moment.
Why did Khabib refuse the handshake?
Coverage attributed the declined handshake to Khabib’s religious observance. That explanation should be treated as reporting about the likely context, not as a confirmed account from Khabib: the cited coverage does not include a direct, attributable statement from him explaining this particular exchange. Goal.com and OC Media discuss the religious explanation.

The incident alone does not establish a universal rule about how Muslims greet others. Religious observance and personal practice vary, and the available reports do not support speaking for Khabib beyond the reported explanation.
What did viewers praise about Scott’s response?
SPORTbible reported positive audience reactions to Scott’s handling of the exchange. One anonymous social-media comment reproduced by the outlet described the moment as awkward but said she handled it “like a total pro.” That is an example of reported reaction, not a named or independently verified quotation—and it does not show how representative viewers’ opinions were.
