Which famous people have spoken publicly about scoliosis?
The clearest examples supported by published interviews and reporting are Usain Bolt and Elizabeth Taylor. Both spoke about having scoliosis, but they shared different kinds of personal information: Bolt discussed its relationship to athletic training, while Taylor said she was born with the condition and described her spine’s curvature.

What did Usain Bolt say about scoliosis?
In an ESPN interview published in 2011, Bolt described being diagnosed with scoliosis and discussed its possible effect on training. He said, “But if I keep my core and back strong, the scoliosis doesn’t really bother me.” Read the ESPN interview.
World Athletics also reported on Bolt’s condition in 2011 and published a statement attributed to him: “It’s (scoliosis) not as serious as it sounds but, for me, as a track athlete, it can be serious.” Read the World Athletics report. What did Elizabeth Taylor say about scoliosis?
In an interview with Ingrid Sischy, Taylor said, “I was born with scoliosis. I have a double curvature of the spine.” Read the Interview Magazine interview.
A 2006 Associated Press report published by CBS News also recorded Taylor saying she was born with scoliosis. Read the CBS News report. Her statement documents what she chose to disclose; it does not establish further details about her medical history.
