Faith Ward’s route from Perth to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders began with an Instagram message she thought was fake. In July 2025, the 22-year-old described how she entered an unfamiliar dance style, survived a demanding selection process and joined the team as one of six rookies. Her interviews also captured the first adjustments of life in Texas; they document her 2025 selection and early days, not her current roster status.
From Western Australia to an unexpected invitation
Ward was born in New Zealand and raised in Western Australia. PerthNow reported that she moved to Perth at age 10 and trained at Smash Dance Company in Wangara. She later described feeling connected to both New Zealand and Australia, and saw joining the Cowboys Cheerleaders as a chance to represent both places where she had grown up.
The invitation came through Instagram. A recruiter direct-messaged her to suggest she apply. Ward recalled to ABC Radio’s The World Today: “Hey, you should apply for DCC.” At first, she did not believe it was genuine. As she told ABC News Australia, “I was like, ‘This is a fake account, this is a drill, there’s no way this is happening’”.
PerthNow and ABC described Ward as the first New Zealander and third Australian to join the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. She was 22 when the outlets interviewed her in July 2025.

What the selection process demanded
Ward’s experience in 2025
Ward had dance experience, but not in the power-pom style used by the team. PerthNow reported that she found the unfamiliar movements and routines intimidating, particularly because returning veterans already knew the choreography. She described training camp as one of the hardest experiences of her life, saying it pushed her mentally and physically. She also credited strict teachers with helping prepare her for professional dance.
ABC reported that thousands competed for six rookie places on the 36-member 2025 squad. PerthNow described the final team as six rookies joining 30 veterans. Those figures describe the season Ward joined, not a standing number for every year. Reflecting on the organization’s leaders, she told ABC: “They’re really just wanting to see the best potential of you”.

The current official audition pathway
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ official auditions page, accessed 8 October 2026, lists four rounds. This is current guidance and should not be treated as a precise record of every step Ward faced in 2025.
- Online first round: Applicants submit during the annual online application window.
- Second round: This round may be online or in person.
- Finals: Candidates must attend in person in Frisco, Texas.
- Training camp: Candidates invited to camp must attend in person; the team is selected from those who progress through it.
The current guidance says judges assess dance technique, high-kick technique, splits, showmanship, appearance, energy, enthusiasm, poise and personality. It states that splits are required to make the team. For auditions, the page accepts slip-on jazz shoes, cheer shoes or lightweight dance sneakers, along with a dance or athletic bra top and dance shorts. These requirements are the organization’s current published guidance, not a claim about what Ward wore or what every detail of her audition involved.

Six rookie places on a 36-member team
Making the 2025 squad meant joining a group where most members were veterans: PerthNow reported 30 returning cheerleaders alongside six rookies. ABC’s account emphasized the scale of the competition, with thousands of candidates seeking those six rookie spots. The numbers help explain the selectivity Ward faced, but they do not establish an acceptance rate: the reports do not specify a complete applicant count suitable for calculating one.

Shortly after joining, Ward was learning everyday differences as well as a new team environment. PerthNow reported that she was adjusting to American road rules and enjoying trying American food. “Everything is the opposite… I’ve been loving trying all the American food,” she said. It was a light observation from July 2025, not a full account of her move or later life in Texas.

In that same period, she told PerthNow, “It’s honestly insane,” describing how much her life had changed. The July interviews capture the early experience of a Perth dancer stepping into an internationally recognized team; they do not establish where she lives now, whether she remains on the squad, or what happened in later seasons.
