These credits describe a collaborative documentary project, rather than a standalone Revolver title.
The film brings the scale of First Nations disadvantage in the legal system into relation with people’s lived experiences. Its subjects include institutional racism, racial profiling, police brutality and deaths in custody, while the project descriptions also emphasize survival, resilience, community and truth-telling. What incarceration figures does the project present?
GARUWA states that First Nations people make up 3.8% of Australia’s population and more than 37% of the adult prison system. GARUWA’s project page presents those figures, and Documentary Australia’s profile also gives 3.8% and 37% of the prison population. The pages do not establish the statistical period, population denominator or an official series behind those figures, so they should be read as figures presented by the project’s publishers—not as a verified, dated current rate.

Why do the deaths-in-custody totals differ?
The project-related pages publish different totals for First Nations deaths in custody since the 1991 Royal Commission. Common Ground states 616; Documentary Australia states at least 636. Neither figure should be silently substituted for the other: the pages do not provide matching cutoff dates or counting methods that would make the totals directly comparable.

These are organizational statements, not a single reconciled official series. Without comparable dates and definitions, the discrepancy cannot be resolved from the published project pages. Common Ground and Documentary Australia provide the respective figures.

Whose experiences are represented?
The project features testimony from Uncle Michael “Widdy” Welsh (Wongaibon), Geoffrey Johnson (Wiradjuri), Kylie Hampton (Gurindji), Matthew Coe (Wiradjuri), and the family of Mark Mason Snr (Gomeroi). Their presence locates broad statistics in particular lives and communities; the project descriptions do not provide named-person quotations that can be responsibly reproduced as direct quotes.
GARUWA says filming took place on Arrernte, Dharug, Dhunghutti, Gadigal, Gameygal and Wangal Lands. Its project page also identifies Revolver as a production partner. The broader project credits and support listings include Screen Australia, Screen NSW, Bright Moon Trust, Shark Island Institute, The Healing Foundation, Carriageworks and Heckler; published pages categorize these organizations differently, so they are not all described here as having the same role.

What the figures can—and cannot—show
The project’s central approach is to put numerical scale beside testimony, not to make a statistic stand in for an individual story. The incarceration figures convey the disproportion that the project wants viewers to confront. The deaths-in-custody totals, meanwhile, illustrate why a number should be accompanied by its source, date and counting definition: the two pages give different totals without enough shared detail to reconcile them.
That distinction matters when discussing a film about institutional harm. The figures are part of the project’s public framing, while the testimony and community perspectives give the subject human context. Neither should be flattened into a claim of greater precision than the published material supports.
