Discovery’s episode descriptions chart the trek from its start through dangerous terrain and crises, while the finale questions aspects of the expedition. Those are the series’ account and framing, not a complete, independently verified reconstruction of every event.
What is Expedition From Hell: The Lost Tapes about?
The series follows Mickey Grosman, whom Warner Bros. Discovery describes as a former special forces demolitions expert, as he leads amateur adventurers on a journey across South America. The distributor presents the expedition as a trek that turns into a fight for survival, with kidnapping, prison escapes and a missing person among the dramatic elements it says the series examines.
Hulu describes the undertaking as a 5,000-mile journey and says the series draws on “over 700 hours of archival footage.” Both figures are platform descriptions; the reviewed listings do not establish an independently verified route measurement or footage audit. Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement describes the program’s premise, while Hulu’s series listing provides its platform description.
How many episodes are there?
There are five episodes in Season 1, according to Discovery’s official series page and Hulu’s listing. Discovery gives the episodes these titles:

What does the series say happened on the trek?
Discovery’s episode synopses provide an escalating outline, rather than a complete independent account of the expedition:
- The opening episodes follow the Amazon 5000’s beginnings and describe the group getting lost in a desert.
- Later descriptions move to the Eastern Andes and refer to a missing teammate and a kidnapping.
- The final episode is framed around a shocking discovery and questions about aspects of the expedition.
These details come from the program’s episode descriptions. The available summaries do not settle the questions raised in the finale, so promotional descriptions alone should not be treated as proof of every contested event or as answers to unresolved mysteries.
When did it premiere?
Warner Bros. Discovery announced the series premiere for Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Channel. That was the announced premiere schedule, not a current airing time.
