Excalibur is described by the Church of Scientology as an unpublished manuscript dated 1938—not as an officially published standalone book. The phrase “Una Puerta Al Manicomio” appears in a user-uploaded Scribd listing, but the available evidence does not confirm it as an official subtitle or show that the listed file is an authentic, complete copy of Hubbard’s manuscript.
What is Excalibur?
The Church of Scientology Mexico’s FAQ says L. Ron Hubbard began studying mind and spirit in 1923 and that this work first took form in a manuscript titled Excalibur, dated 1938. It describes the manuscript as unpublished and says the term “Scientology” first appeared in it, meaning what Hubbard called “the study of knowing how to know.” Church of Scientology Mexico FAQ.
According to the same FAQ, Hubbard decided not to publish the manuscript because it “no contenía ningún tipo de terapia, sino que era simplemente una disertación sobre la composición de la vida” (“contained no kind of therapy, but was simply a dissertation on the composition of life”). The Church’s account says he then went further in his work, leading to Dianetics. This is the organization’s description; the FAQ does not provide an independently inspectable copy of the 1938 manuscript.
The Church’s English-language FAQ gives a corresponding account: it dates Excalibur to 1938, says it remained unpublished, and places Hubbard’s work on Dianetics afterward. It dates Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health to May 9, 1950. Church of Scientology FAQ.

Is there an official Excalibur PDF or published book?
The Church’s FAQ calls Excalibur unpublished, and the Church’s Spanish-language catalog lists books, lectures, fiction, and biographical collections without identifying it as a published standalone book.
