Spoilers for Evil season four, episode 10, “How to Survive a Storm.” Christine Lahti sees Sheryl Luria’s final actions as an attempt to bring down Leland Townsend and reconnect with her daughter, Kristen. In the episode, Sheryl dies after confronting Leland—but leaves videos that give Kristen and Andy evidence against him. Lahti told io9 that she believes Sheryl found a measure of peace, though that reading does not erase the damage Sheryl caused.
What does Christine Lahti say Sheryl wanted at the end?
Lahti described Sheryl’s last choices as serving two aims: undermining Leland, the leader of the organization where Sheryl works, and seeking forgiveness and understanding from Kristen. “I do think she was at peace,” Lahti told Cheryl Eddy of io9. She added that Sheryl had been “playing the long game” against Leland and believed the videos she left could put him in prison.
For Lahti, the recordings matter emotionally as well as practically. She interpreted them as evidence of Sheryl’s wish to make amends and find some form of redemption with her daughter. That is the actor’s interpretation of the character, not a verdict that Sheryl’s choices were harmless.
How does Sheryl’s confrontation with Leland end?
In “How to Survive a Storm,” Sheryl tries to sabotage Leland’s company and poison him. Their confrontation stops her plan, and Leland throws her from a window, killing her. Before she dies, Sheryl leaves videos for Kristen and Andy that explain Leland’s crimes. The episode ends with Leland in custody, as TV Guide’s episode interview describes.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The recordings give Kristen and Andy evidence against Leland, but they arrive at a cost: Sheryl cannot repair her relationship with Kristen in person or undo the risks her choices have created for her family.
Why did Sheryl stay close to Leland?
Lahti played Sheryl’s proximity to Leland as part of a long-running effort to bring him down. She also developed a personal backstory for the role in which Sheryl had been mistreated and undervalued by men. In Lahti’s framework, that history helped explain Sheryl’s hunger for power and her willingness to remain near Leland while working against him.

That backstory is Lahti’s actor-created interpretation; it should not be mistaken for confirmed series canon. On screen, Sheryl’s pursuit of power also involves unethical choices and puts people she loves at risk. Her opposition to Leland does not cancel out that harm.
What regrets did Lahti identify?
In a separate interview with TV Guide, Lahti connected Sheryl’s regrets to her lust for power and to putting her grandchildren in danger. She described the videos and Sheryl’s final effort to help her family as selfless and heroic, while acknowledging the character’s destructive choices. That tension is central to the ending: Sheryl can make a consequential sacrifice without becoming innocent of what came before.
