The Tulsa King spinoff first announced as NOLA King is now called Frisco King in Paramount+’s official materials. It stars Samuel L. Jackson as Russell Lee Washington Jr. and is set in Frisco, Texas—not New Orleans. Paramount+ has announced an eight-episode first season, but its April 2, 2026 overview did not give a premiere date.
What happened to NOLA King?
Paramount+ announced the project as NOLA King on July 17, 2025. Its current official series overview, published April 2, 2026, calls it Frisco King and says it was formerly known as NOLA King. The change is more than a new label: the announced setting is Frisco, Texas, while New Orleans is part of the lead character’s background.
Paramount+ put it this way: “Frisco King was formerly known as NOLA King – and not for nothing.” Paramount+’s series overview describes the current premise and title.
Is Frisco King set in New Orleans?
No. The current official premise is set in Frisco, Texas. Russell Lee Washington Jr. hails from New Orleans, but Paramount+ describes him as a hitman working for New York mobsters who refuses an assignment to kill Dwight Manfredi. He then heads to Frisco to build a new life and enterprise.

How does the spinoff connect to Tulsa King?
Jackson’s character is introduced in Tulsa King season three before taking the lead in the spinoff. Paramount+ says Lee and Dwight met in federal prison, where Dwight saved Lee’s life roughly 20 years before the events of Tulsa King. The overview identifies the season-three episodes “Dead Weight” and “Jesus Lizard” as Lee’s introduction.
The original announcement confirmed Jackson’s casting and the plan to introduce Russell Lee Washington Jr. in season three. Paramount+’s July 17, 2025 announcement covers that initial setup.
