It takes place in the world of the 2015 PlayStation game, but tells a new story with new characters rather than retelling the game’s plot.
What is the Until Dawn movie about?
One year after Melanie disappears, her sister Clover and a group of friends travel to the remote valley where she was last seen. The friends become trapped in a repeating night: after they are killed, they wake at the beginning of the evening and face a different threat in the next cycle. They must work out how to survive long enough to reach dawn.
Netflix Tudum identifies the fictional setting as Glore Valley and the friends as Max, Abe, Nina and Megan. Sony’s synopsis says the group realizes it has only a limited number of deaths left. The premise combines a missing-person search with a time loop, and the changing threats are central to the film’s setup.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Is the movie a direct adaptation of the game?
No. PlayStation describes the film as set in the same world as the 2015 game, but built around fresh characters and an original story. It is not a scene-by-scene retelling of the game or a reproduction of the player’s choices.
The distinction matters because the game’s story responds to player decisions, with choices capable of leading characters toward different life-or-death outcomes. A film has a fixed narrative instead. The adaptation’s stated aim was to carry over the spirit of branching choices and deadly consequences while giving both existing fans and new viewers a separate story. Peter Stormare, who is associated with Dr. Hill in the game, is one connection between the two.

Where can you watch Until Dawn?
Sony Pictures currently lists Until Dawn for 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and digital viewing. Its page links to Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango at Home, YouTube, Sony Pictures Core, Amazon, Target and Walmart. The listing does not establish the price, stock, exact edition or retailer terms, which can vary by location and over time.
Sony notes that 4K HDR playback requires a compatible 4K UHD HDR television, an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and high-speed HDMI 2.0A cables. That is an equipment requirement for 4K HDR playback, not a special feature unique to this film.
