What the ranking shows
The top two are separated by less than $20 million
Dark of the Moon leads Age of Extinction by $19,739,993, about 1.8% of the first film’s reported gross. Both passed $1.1 billion worldwide according to The Numbers’ figures.
Domestic and worldwide rankings differ
Revenge of the Fallen is third worldwide, but its $402,111,870 domestic gross is the highest domestic total in this list. A film’s domestic position therefore cannot be used as a substitute for its worldwide rank.

The 1986 film is not a like-for-like comparison
The animated The Transformers: The Movie ranks ninth by reported gross. Its $5,849,647 total comes from a different era of ticket prices and theatrical distribution, so the nominal dollar figure should not be treated as a direct measure of audience size against modern releases.
What “box office performance” means here
This is a ranking of reported worldwide theatrical gross in nominal U.S. dollars, not a ranking by inflation-adjusted earnings, tickets sold, reviews, or studio profitability. Worldwide gross is money collected at the box office, not the amount returned to a studio: the figures do not account for marketing, distribution costs, or exhibitors’ share. The table’s order should be read only against the stated gross metric.

Which films are included
The list covers the nine theatrical releases in The Numbers’ Transformers franchise table, from the 1986 animated film through Transformers One (2024). It does not count television films or shorts, and a later anniversary engagement of the 1986 movie is not a separate franchise film.
