Spoilers for the first Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle film: Its three main battles are Tanjiro and Giyu vs. Akaza, Shinobu vs. Doma, and Zenitsu vs. Kaigaku. Ranked by the combined strength of their action, visual identity, character stakes, escalation, and payoff, Tanjiro and Giyu’s fight with Akaza comes out on top. This is an editorial ranking, not an official one.
What counts as a battle in the first Infinity Castle film?
Infinity Castle is the first film in a trilogy, not an adaptation of the entire castle arc. The official film site describes Muzan’s stronghold as the setting where the Corps’ final battle begins. Netflix’s film guide highlights three central matchups: Shinobu Kocho vs. Doma, Zenitsu Agatsuma vs. Kaigaku, and Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka vs. Akaza. This ranking covers those fights in this film only; it does not fold later trilogy battles into the list.
The order weighs choreography and readability, visual variety, emotional stakes, escalation, and payoff. The biggest weight goes to how well a fight combines spectacle with character drama. Change those priorities and the order can change, too.
The three main battles, ranked
1. Tanjiro and Giyu vs. Akaza
This is the strongest overall battle because its scale and escalation are matched by personal and emotional weight. Akaza, an Upper Rank Three demon, adapts to the slayers’ strengths, forcing Tanjiro and Giyu to respond rather than rely on a single advantage. The shifting contest gives the action a clear dramatic engine: each exchange feels like a new problem to solve.

The fight also connects its present danger to the story’s earlier events and to Akaza’s traumatic human memories. Netflix’s guide outlines that history, while GamesRadar+’s review singles it out as the headline fight and discusses the shift from action to Akaza’s tragic past. That movement between forceful combat and revelation gives the battle a fuller payoff than spectacle alone. It earns first place for the way its animation, rising pressure, and character story reinforce one another.
2. Shinobu vs. Doma
Shinobu’s duel with Doma stands out for its visual contrast and for the character tension behind her weapon. She fights with a poisoned sword belonging to her deceased sister, as Netflix’s guide explains. Against Doma, a demon who consumes souls, that weapon makes the clash feel distinct from a straightforward contest of strength.
Rank #2
The sequence also has a striking visual identity. GamesRadar+ calls Doma “one of Infinity Castle’s surprise standouts” and praises the visual invention associated with his fans. That combination of an unusual opponent, a memorable weapon, and inventive imagery makes this the best pick for viewers who prize spectacle and design above a longer emotional arc. It ranks just below Akaza’s battle because the latter brings its action and character payoff together more completely.
3. Zenitsu vs. Kaigaku
Zenitsu’s fight with Kaigaku is the most intimate of the three. Kaigaku was Zenitsu’s fellow disciple and comrade; his betrayal led to the shared master’s seppuku, according to Netflix’s guide. Their history gives the duel a personal charge that cannot be measured by the number of fighters or the size of the spectacle.

The battle ranks third because it is more compact and less expansive than the other two, not because its stakes are minor. Its strength lies in the relationship and the meaning of the betrayal. Viewers who put personal history above scale could reasonably rank it higher.

Choose Tanjiro and Giyu vs. Akaza for the strongest blend of escalating action and emotional payoff. Choose Shinobu vs. Doma if visual variety and an unusual opponent matter most. Choose Zenitsu vs. Kaigaku if a personal reckoning carries more weight than breadth or scale. There is no objective score that settles the order; the criteria explain why this ranking puts Akaza first while leaving room for a different preference.
