The film materials confirm six characters at the heart of the story: Lilith, Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, Tannis, and Claptrap. A cast listing names ten more movie roles, including Moxxi, Hammerlock, and Marcus. Those film credits confirm who is in the movie; they do not, by themselves, establish which game each character first appeared in.
The six characters at the center of the movie
The official Borderlands movie synopsis says Lilith returns to Pandora and forms an alliance with five others. It describes the film as based on the game from Gearbox and 2K.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Borderlands games do these characters come from?
The movie is based on the Gearbox and 2K game franchise, and the characters are drawn from across the series. A 2024 Fandango feature specifically notes that Tiny Tina, Krieg, Sir Hammerlock, and Wainwright Jakobs made their game debuts in later installments.
Rank #2
- 7-Inch scale articulated tiny Tina action figure featured in on-screen attire from the all new Borderlands 3 video game
- Figure features 12+ Moving parts of articulation
- Figure comes with in-game accurate Tongue pistol accessory
- Figure features interchangeable rabbit ears, rabbit mask, and bunny belt clip accessories
That supports the broad point that the film brings together characters associated with multiple games, rather than adapting only one game’s roster. It does not provide a complete game-by-game origin map for every cast-listed name. The movie role “Jakobs” is credited to Cheyenne Jackson; the available cast evidence does not establish that this is Wainwright Jakobs, so the names should not be treated as interchangeable without further confirmation.

What “confirmed” means here
- The official synopsis confirms the six-member team by naming its characters directly.
- The cast listing confirms additional named film roles and their credited actors.
- A movie credit is not the same as evidence of a character’s first game appearance or exact game-by-game history.
- Some game-series links are described by Fandango, but the available sources do not establish provenance for every secondary role.
