AJ Styles has held four kinds of championships in WWE across seven reigns: two WWE Championship runs, three United States Championship runs, one Intercontinental Championship run, and one Raw Tag Team Championship run with Omos. Ranked from worst to best, his second WWE Championship reign stands out: its 371 days is the longest of the seven, and it placed him atop WWE’s main championship picture for more than a year. This ranking weighs title level, length, career significance, and how distinctive each reign’s story was; the order is editorial, while the dates and durations come from WWE’s official title histories.
How many times was AJ Styles a WWE champion?
Styles had seven WWE championship reigns across four title categories. WWE’s official histories record two WWE Championship reigns, three United States Championship reigns, one Intercontinental Championship reign, and one Raw Tag Team Championship reign alongside Omos. The rankings below run from the shortest and least distinctive stretch to the reign with the strongest combination of stature, duration, and significance.
AJ Styles’ WWE title reigns, ranked worst to best
7. First United States Championship reign — 16 days
WWE’s United States Championship history dates Styles’ first reign from July 7 to July 23, 2017, when Kevin Owens regained the title. At just 16 days, it is the shortest of Styles’ seven reigns and has the least standalone narrative weight in this comparison. That makes it the bottom-ranked reign here, not an unimportant championship.
6. Second United States Championship reign — 74 days
Styles regained the U.S. title on July 25, 2017, just two days after losing it, and held it until October 8. WWE records the reign at 74 days. Its quick win-back gives this run a clearer story than the first 2017 reign, but it remained secondary to Styles’ WWE Championship program. He lost the title to Baron Corbin in a triple-threat match that also included Tye Dillinger, as WWE’s October 8 match coverage confirms.

5. Raw Tag Team Championship reign with Omos — 132 days
Styles and Omos held the Raw Tag Team Championship from April 10 to August 21, 2021, for 132 days, according to WWE’s tag-team title history. The pairing gave Styles a different role from his singles runs: its contrast in size and style made the team distinct. It ranks above his two brief 2017 U.S. reigns, but below the singles runs that carried greater individual championship significance.
4. Intercontinental Championship reign — 71 days
Styles won the Intercontinental Championship tournament final against Daniel Bryan and held the title from June 12 to August 22, 2020. WWE’s official title history records 71 days. The tournament context makes this reign stand out among his secondary-title runs, though its duration and place in the championship hierarchy leave it below the longer 2019 U.S. run in this ranking. WWE’s AJ Styles profile lists the title and the tournament victory.

3. Third United States Championship reign — 134 days
Styles’ third U.S. title run lasted from July 14 to November 25, 2019, making it his longest reign with that championship at 134 days. WWE’s title history records the dates and length. This run ranks above the Intercontinental reign for its longer tenure and above the tag-team reign because it was a singles championship run. It was not Styles’ longest WWE reign overall: his second WWE Championship run lasted 371 days.
2. First WWE Championship reign — 140 days
Styles won his first WWE Championship from Dean Ambrose at Backlash on September 11, 2016, then held the title until January 29, 2017, for 140 days. The victory marked his arrival as WWE’s top champion and gives this reign more career significance than the secondary-title runs. In WWE’s match report, the finish is described as controversial: Styles used a low blow while the referee was down, then hit the Styles Clash.

1. Second WWE Championship reign — 371 days
Styles’ second WWE Championship reign ran from November 7, 2017, to November 13, 2018, and lasted 371 days—the longest of his seven WWE title reigns, according to WWE’s WWE Championship history. He defeated Jinder Mahal in Manchester to win the title. WWE’s event report noted that the title was at stake in Styles’ scheduled Survivor Series match against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. The reign takes the top spot for its exceptional length with WWE’s principal world championship, not simply because it was the longest.

Duration provides a clear baseline: the seven runs range from 16 to 371 days, based on WWE’s official title histories. But length alone does not determine the ranking. Styles’ first WWE Championship reign scores highly for what it meant in his career, while the second combines world-title stature with a year-long tenure. The U.S., Intercontinental, and tag-team reigns offer different stories, but they do not match that combination of championship level and duration.
