Event Horizon: Dark Descent #4 Revisits the Film’s Infamous Cut Scene

Yes—but as a new comic depiction, not as restored footage from the 1997 film. Event Horizon: Dark Descent, an official prequel comic about the film’s original crew, addresses the infamous “blood orgy” scene in issue #4. Writer Christian Ward pointed readers to that issue when discussing how the prequel would handle the sequence.

What does “28 years later” mean?

It refers to the time elapsed since the original Event Horizon was released in 1997. It is not a reference to the separate 28 Years Later film franchise. Dark Descent is a prequel that follows the original spaceship crew before the events of the film. Inverse’s oral history of Event Horizon provides context on the film and its production.

How does the comic handle the cut scene?

In an interview published by The Comics Beat on August 7, 2025, writer Christian Ward addressed the scene often called the “blood orgy”: “In regards to the director’s cut and its infamous ‘blood orgy’ scene I can promise fans they won’t be disappointed.” Ward directed readers to issue #4 for the comic’s treatment. That is Ward’s promotional assurance about the story, not an independent report of audience response. Read The Comics Beat interview with Christian Ward.

Is it the original deleted footage?

No. The interview describes much of the excised film footage as lost and characterizes the comic’s story as wholly original. Issue #4 offers a newly written and illustrated interpretation of the sequence; it does not restore or reproduce the lost movie footage. The Comics Beat interview is the source for Ward’s comments and the account of the lost material.
