In a deleted scene from the penultimate episode of Survivor 48, Eva Erickson describes feeling physically depleted, struggling in challenges and worried that her physical state is affecting her mental state. The scene, reported by Entertainment Weekly on May 15, 2025, also shows fellow contestants Mitch Guerra and Kamilla Karthigesu offering support.
What happens in the deleted scene
Erickson talks with Guerra and Karthigesu in the shelter about how far her physical condition seems to have fallen from the standard she expects of herself. She had seen herself as physically strong and took pride in competing in men’s hockey. Now, she says, she is not performing as she wants in challenges and feels she has lost that physicality.
As quoted by Entertainment Weekly, Erickson says: “I’ve never been so low physically in my life, and that low physical state is definitely destroying my mental [state] too, because I don’t think that I can do anything in this game other than just wait and hope.” The bracketed words are an editorial insertion in the published quotation.
The scene’s focus is Erickson’s description of her own experience. It does not establish a medical diagnosis or support broader conclusions about her health.

How Erickson explained the moment afterward
In a post-season interview with Mike Bloom for RHAP, published June 27, 2025, Erickson called the scene one of her favorites from the series. She said it captured what castaways could be going through in different ways: “Yeah, I think that secret scene was one of my favorite scenes from the series because I think that really encapsulated what a lot of us were going through in different ways.”
Erickson connected the moment to consecutive challenge setbacks: a disqualification in one challenge followed by trouble in a ball-toss challenge she felt should suit her hockey skills. She also recalled worrying about returning to hockey after the game and whether her teammates would respect her if she felt weak.

The deleted scene offers a late-season glimpse of Erickson’s frustration and the support she received from contestants outside her closest alliance. It is separate from the earlier episode-five emotional moment and autism disclosure, which became prominent in the season’s public conversation; those events should not be conflated with this scene.
