On 4 May 2022, former Miss World Australia Erin Holland shared that her first IVF round with husband Ben Cutting had “resulted in nothing viable.” She described the emotional and physical strain of treatment while her fertility journey was still underway. Later accounts reported a different outcome, but Holland’s experience is personal testimony—not a prediction of what IVF will mean for anyone else.
What Erin Holland shared in 2022
PerthNow reported on 4 May 2022 that Holland and Cutting had learned their first IVF round had “resulted in nothing viable.” Holland wrote about feeling overwhelmed by failure and guilt, as well as the physical demands, injections and cost involved in treatment. PerthNow’s report quoted her saying, “The sense of failure is overwhelming.”
She also explained that she had initially hoped to freeze embryos until the time felt right. She chose to speak publicly while the journey was ongoing, describing the value of seeking information and hearing other people’s accounts. Her words, “the only real option to have a baby for me is IVF,” referred to her own circumstances; they should not be read as a general statement about other people’s fertility options.
What later reports said
Later coverage reported that Holland and Cutting went on to have a child after further fertility treatment. The sources give different descriptions of the timeline, so their figures are best kept attributed rather than treated as one settled chronology.

- A May 2026 episode listing for Something To Talk About says Holland described a four-year fertility journey and pregnancy after 20 IVF rounds. Podcast Republic’s episode listing is a description of the episode, not a clinical record.
- IVFBabble’s 2026 story index summarizes the couple’s outcome as welcoming a baby girl after five years of fertility treatment and 20 IVF rounds. It also reports four miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy. These are sensitive details reported by a secondary source, not independently established clinical information. IVFBabble’s 2026 story index
The difference between four and five years may reflect how the accounts describe the journey; the available reports do not establish a single definitive duration. The figure of 20 rounds appears in both later sources, but it describes Holland’s reported personal history, not a typical IVF course or a general outcome rate.

Holland’s account makes visible the emotional and practical burdens she said accompanied treatment, including uncertainty after a round, injections, physical strain and cost. It does not offer medical guidance or establish what another patient should expect. Her initial account was shared before the outcome later described by the 2026 sources, and both stages belong to the chronology of her personal story.
