Eric Dane missed the ALS Network’s Champions for Cures and Care Gala in Pasadena on January 24, 2026, because he was not well enough to attend. He had been expected to accept the organization’s Advocate of the Year Award; actor Aaron Lazar accepted it on his behalf, and a prerecorded message from Dane was played at the event.
Why Eric Dane missed the gala
An ALS Network spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter, in a statement quoted by Us Weekly, that Dane had hoped to attend but “due to the physical realities of ALS, he is not well enough to attend.” The statement did not identify a more specific medical cause for his absence. Us Weekly reported the explanation on January 24, 2026.
How the award was presented
Dane was named the ALS Network’s Advocate of the Year. Aaron Lazar accepted the award for him at the Pasadena gala. Rather than appearing live, Dane participated through a prerecorded video message, which was played during the event, according to the San Francisco Chronicle’s January 26, 2026 report.
In the message, Dane said: “This award is not just for me, it’s for my beautiful loved ones who are fighting with me, and it’s for every person who has faced ALS with courage.” He also recognized caregivers and advocates: “For every caregiver who gives their heart and energy day after day, and for every advocate who raises their voice to push for progress.”

What the gala was recognizing
The Champions for Cures and Care Gala was held in Pasadena, California, on Saturday, January 24, 2026. The ALS Network’s Advocate of the Year Award recognized Dane’s advocacy. He had publicly disclosed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, as Us Weekly noted in its coverage.
