When he returned to the neighborhood with Entertainment Tonight correspondent Kevin Frazier, he described the destruction as devastating and inseparable from the family memories held in the house. In February, Braeden said his family intended to rebuild if they could obtain insurance, but the plan was still uncertain.
What Braeden said when he returned to the home
During a visit to the remains with Kevin Frazier, Braeden tried to describe the loss in personal terms. “Forty-five years, man,” he said. “I didn’t think it would hit me this much, man. … I’m devastated, man. I’m devastated. All the memories. I don’t want my family to see this.”
He said he had watched coverage of the fire but had never imagined it happening to his home. The feeling, he told Frazier, was “indescribable” and left him “totally disoriented.” TV Insider reported the interview on January 11, 2025, as Braeden and Frazier visited the neighborhood (TV Insider).
Rebuilding was a conditional plan, not a confirmed outcome
In a February 7, 2025 interview, Braeden said his family intended to rebuild, but only if insurance companies would insure homes in the affected areas. “That’s going to be a huge problem,” he said, adding, “I don’t think anyone has a definitive answer.” He described the plan as still taking shape, not as a settled construction decision (TV Insider).

That statement records the family’s intention and uncertainty at that time. The reviewed reporting does not establish whether the home was later rebuilt or where the family currently lives.
What officials later said about the fire’s origin
In an October 15, 2025 release, updated February 6, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice said investigators determined the Palisades Fire was a “holdover” from the Lachman Fire, which began early on New Year’s Day and continued smoldering underground before heavy winds brought it above ground on January 7. DOJ alleged that Jonathan Rinderknecht maliciously set the original fire. Those statements describe the government’s account and allegations in a criminal case, not a conviction; DOJ says the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (U.S. Department of Justice).

Returning to evacuation areas in January 2025
After the fire, CAL FIRE’s January 20, 2025 incident update told residents to wait for official clearance before returning to evacuated areas while damage inspections and hazard mitigation continued. It cited dangers including downed power lines, damaged guard rails, trees, and debris. That was guidance for the conditions at that time, not current access advice (CAL FIRE).
