Fact-checkers found that viral childhood images purporting to show the two together were AI-generated. A separate email mention of Mamdani’s mother, filmmaker Mira Nair, does not establish that Mamdani met Epstein or that Epstein was his father.
The other claims need different qualifications: Associated Press reported that photographs in a 2026 Justice Department release appear to show Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor kneeling over an unidentified person, while the identity behind a separate “George Bush 1” allegation has not been established by a primary record in the cited material.
Are the viral photos of Zohran Mamdani with Jeffrey Epstein real?
No. Full Fact reported on February 5, 2026, that the pictures purporting to show Mamdani as a child with Epstein were generated or edited with AI. The Associated Press likewise reported on February 2 that the images were AI-generated and traced them to a parody account.
The supposed connection has also been linked online to an email that mentions Mira Nair. That mention does not show that Mamdani met Epstein, and it is not evidence of parentage. An email reference to someone’s mother cannot authenticate an unrelated image or establish who a person’s father is.

What do the Andrew photographs show?
In a January 31, 2026 report, the Associated Press described three photographs in a Justice Department release that appear to show Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor kneeling over a person lying on the floor. The other person’s face is redacted.
The photographs, as described in that report, do not establish the other person’s identity or age, the circumstances of the scene, or whether a crime occurred. They should not be treated as proof that the unidentified person was a victim, a minor or a participant in criminal conduct. The careful description is that the images appear to show Andrew; the report alone does not authenticate every detail of the original files.

Has the allegation about “George Bush 1” been verified?
Not in the cited material. A Factually summary characterizes the allegation as unverified and uses the wording “George Bush 1.” It does not provide a primary record substantiating the allegation. That wording also does not resolve whether it refers to George H.W. Bush or George W. Bush. Without an underlying document and corroboration, the allegation should not be reported as fact or assigned to either man.
What does “Epstein files unsealed” mean?
The Justice Department’s Epstein Library says it hosts materials responsive to the Epstein Files Transparency Act and links to Justice Department and House disclosures. The library is a collection of materials with different release histories; its contents should not all be described as newly unsealed by a court.

In its February 27, 2025 announcement of the first release phase, the Justice Department said that phase largely consisted of material that had previously leaked but had not been formally released by the government. The announcement described Epstein’s sexual exploitation as involving over 250 underage girls; that figure and characterization belong to the department’s 2025 statement, not to every later tranche of records. The department’s release announcement is available here.
The library page displayed a last-updated date of September 11, 2026. It warns that technical limitations and document formats, including handwritten material, can make parts of the collection unsearchable or search results unreliable. A name not appearing in a search therefore does not prove that no relevant document exists anywhere in the collection.

How to read claims tied to a large document release
A person’s name in a file, an image circulated online, or a reference in an email is not, by itself, evidence of wrongdoing. To assess a claim, distinguish the underlying record from reporting about it, check whether identity and provenance are authenticated, and ask whether the material documents a fact, repeats an allegation, or supports a finding. Redactions and incomplete search functionality can further limit what a released record establishes.
