Taj Jackson was reported to reject online speculation linking his uncle, Michael Jackson, to images circulating in connection with the Epstein files. The U.S. Department of Justice lists Michael Jackson among people referenced in released materials, but warns that names appear in many different contexts. The list alone does not establish that he knew Jeffrey Epstein or was involved in wrongdoing.

What did Taj Jackson say?

NoirOnlineOrg reported on December 21, 2025, that Taj Jackson responded after heavily redacted images associated with the Epstein files circulated online. The outlet attributed two statements to him. The original social media post and the images’ provenance have not been independently verified.

“Thank you to all the MJ fans for once again quickly and accurately setting the record straight,” Taj wrote. “I know how tiring and frustrating it can be to deal with media propaganda and smear campaigns aimed squarely at my uncle.”

“It’s plain to see he is constantly being used as a distraction, scapegoat, and smoke screen for others. And to the trolls, trashy media, haters, and click baiters… this is not our first rodeo. Despite whatever lies you try to spread, the truth will always win out in the end.”

Was Michael Jackson named in the Epstein files?

Yes. The Justice Department’s report lists Michael Jackson among people referenced in released materials. The department explains that its list includes people whose names appear at least once, and that the references vary widely in context. It cautions that some names occur in material facially unrelated to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

The list is not a finding that every person named had a relationship with Epstein. The reviewed sources do not establish a personal association between Michael Jackson and Jeffrey Epstein, and they do not identify the specific underlying record behind the name entry. Determining what a reference means requires locating and reading that document, rather than relying on a name list or a viral image.

What does a name in the files establish?

A name appearing in a released record establishes only that the name appears in that record. By itself, it does not show why the person is mentioned, whether the reference is accurate, whether the person had contact with Epstein, or whether the person committed wrongdoing. The DOJ’s report puts it plainly: “Names appear in the files released under the Act in a wide variety of contexts.”

  • A name-list entry: an index-level reference, not a conclusion about conduct or a relationship.
  • An underlying document: the material needed to assess who is being discussed and in what context.
  • A reported reaction or circulating image: claims that should be attributed to their source unless the original post or image can be authenticated.

Why are the files extensive and redacted?

The DOJ described its production as a compilation drawn from multiple criminal cases, investigations into Epstein’s death, FBI investigations, and other sources. In its production letter, the department said more than 500 attorneys and reviewers worked on the effort; more than 6 million pages were identified as potentially responsive, and over 3 million responsive pages were released, along with more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. The letter reviewed for these figures did not state a publication year.

On February 27, 2025, the DOJ said the first release phase largely contained material that had previously leaked but had not been formally released by the government. The department also said identities of victims would be protected through review and redaction. Redactions and the sheer size of the production make context especially important: an isolated name or image cannot substitute for the full record.

How to assess claims about a person named in the files

  1. Check the official list or index. Confirm whether the name is listed, while treating that as a pointer to material rather than proof of a connection.
  2. Find the underlying record. Read the document around the reference and note who created it, what it describes, and whether it is itself a report of someone else’s claim.
  3. Verify viral material at its source. Distinguish an authenticated original image or post from a secondary outlet’s description or an image circulating without provenance.
  4. Keep conclusions within the evidence. A documented reference is not automatically evidence of personal contact, an allegation, or wrongdoing.
