On March 11, 2025, En Vogue founding member Dawn Robinson disclosed in a video on her YouTube channel that she had been living in her car for nearly three years. She described leaving a difficult family living situation, spending time in a hotel, and then driving to Malibu in March 2022. Her later clarification was that she was temporarily choosing car life for healing and self-discovery and did not consider herself homeless. The reporting cited here does not establish her circumstances after March 2025.
What Dawn Robinson disclosed
Robinson made the disclosure in a video posted to her official YouTube channel on March 11, 2025. ABC News quoted her saying, “For the past three — almost three years, I have been living in my car.” The statement was her account of her experience, not an independent assessment of her living arrangements. ABC News reported on the video, as did the Los Angeles Times.
Robinson is an original member of En Vogue, the vocal group whose debut album, Born to Sing, came out in 1990. BET identifies her as a founding member in its report on her disclosure.

- Living with her parents: Robinson said she was living with her parents in Las Vegas around 2020, until her relationship with her mother deteriorated.
- A first period in her car: She left and spent about a month living in her car.
- A proposed place in Los Angeles: A former co-manager offered her somewhere to stay, and she went to Los Angeles.
- Eight months in a hotel: She said she stayed in a hotel while trying to find an apartment.
- Leaving the hotel: After researching car, RV and van life, she left the hotel and drove to Malibu on March 9, 2022. She placed the start of her sustained period living in the car at that point.
The sequence helps explain why the headline refers to a disclosure made in 2025 about a period that Robinson said began in 2022. It does not establish how long she continued living in her car after she spoke publicly.
How Robinson described the experience
Robinson did not describe the decision as unambiguously positive or negative. She said she felt free and compared the experience to a camping trip. At the same time, she acknowledged that having an apartment would be preferable if she had the choice: “Would I have an apartment now if I had a choice? I would. I’m not going to lie,” she told the Los Angeles Times.

BET reported that Robinson said she shared the story to talk about resilience and self-discovery, rather than to seek sympathy. Its account also reported that her dog Max died in the car. That detail was part of BET’s reporting; it should not be read as a fuller account of Robinson’s circumstances or living arrangements.
Did Robinson say she was homeless?
In a clarification reported by E! News on March 21, 2025, Robinson said, “I want to make it clear: I am not homeless.” The report said she gave the statement to People and also quoted her describing the arrangement as “temporarily choosing car life as part of my journey of healing and self-discovery.” Those words reflect Robinson’s own framing of her situation at that time; they do not settle how others might classify a person’s housing circumstances.

What is known about her living situation now?
The cited coverage documents Robinson’s March 2025 disclosure and her clarification later that month. It does not establish where she has lived since then. It would therefore be inaccurate to present the 2025 account as confirmation that she is currently living in her car—or to claim that she has since moved elsewhere.
