How to read the reports about Watson’s relationships
Watson has spoken about why she does not discuss a partner publicly while expecting privacy in her day-to-day life. In a 2017 Vanity Fair interview, quoted by ELLE in 2018, she said: “I want to be consistent: I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home. You can’t have it both ways.”
That privacy makes it important to separate Watson’s own on-record remarks from what outlets infer. A photograph can establish that two people were together in a particular place; by itself, it cannot establish the nature or duration of a relationship. Anonymous-source accounts may add context, but they are not the same as a statement from Watson or the other person.
Chord Overstreet: conflicting reports in 2018
In March 2018, ELLE reported that multiple sources had told Page Six Watson and actor Chord Overstreet were seeing each other. The same article quoted another source saying, “They are friendly, but are not in a relationship.” Representatives did not comment, according to ELLE.
ELLE’s 2025 retrospective, “Emma Watson’s Complete Dating History,” describes them meeting through mutual friends in early 2018 and being seen holding hands after the Vanity Fair Oscar party that March. It says they stopped seeing each other within a couple of months, relaying a source’s view that the connection was not going to be long-term. The careful description is a reported brief relationship; Watson did not publicly confirm it in the coverage cited here.
Brandon Green: linked from 2021, reportedly split in 2023
ELLE’s 2025 retrospective says Watson began dating Brandon Green around September 2021, citing People, and notes that the pair were photographed in London and Venice during 2021 and 2022. It reports that the relationship had ended by early 2023, while noting that the exact timing was unclear.
In May 2023, The Independent reported that they had reportedly split shortly after Christmas, after what it called an “18-month” romance. That account relied on Daily Mail reporting and unnamed sources, rather than a direct statement from either Watson or Green. The dates are therefore best treated as approximate media reporting, not as a confirmed timeline from the couple.
What Watson has said about dating since
In a September 24, 2025 interview on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Watson spoke about dating and marriage, as reported by ELLE. She described feeling that she had not yet understood her purpose and direction, saying: “I didn’t have a clear enough idea of my purpose, my vision, like, how I was going to be of service. I didn’t know where I really felt like I needed to be.”

She also joked about the dating experience more broadly: “I think what’s nice is, at the very least, dating for everyone is basically a complete disaster and free-for-all. So like I feel like I’m in good company in that sense.” These comments are first-person context about her outlook; they do not name a partner or announce a relationship status.

A 2026 Us Weekly timeline links Watson to Gonzalo Hevia Baillères and describes a kiss at a Mexican airport as confirmation of the relationship. That is the outlet’s characterization. The reviewed account does not include a direct relationship announcement from Watson, so it should not be presented as her own confirmation.

For the same reason, indirect reports do not establish Watson’s current relationship status. The public record described here supports a timeline of reported links and her own comments about privacy and dating—not a definitive claim about whom she is with now.
