They realized they shared the habit during a 2020 episode of Lil Wayne’s Young Money Radio, as reported by The Independent.
What did Eminem and Lil Wayne say?
Wayne described Googling his lyrics to make sure he had not already said certain things. The Independent quoted him saying, “I literally have to Google my lyrics to make sure I didn’t say certain stuff.” Eminem responded, “Oh my god. I swear to god, I do that too.”
Wayne joked that opening his Safari browser would bring up “Lil Wayne lyrics.” The exchange was about checking past work while writing new material, not simply looking up lyrics for a listener.
Why do they search their own lyrics?
Eminem connected the practice to the challenge of a long career: an artist can reach a point where they feel they have rapped about everything and rhymed every word. Searching earlier lyrics gives them a way to check whether a line or idea has already appeared, reducing the chance of repeating themselves unintentionally.
