Elvis Presley’s former Lockheed JetStar is now a road-going motorhome, not a flying aircraft. The completed conversion joined the 1962 jet’s fuselage to a 1999 Freightliner motorhome chassis, retaining its red-velvet-and-gold cabin. Owner and builder Jimmy Webb drove it to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in July 2024.
What does Elvis’s JetStar camper look like?
From the outside, it still has the unmistakable profile of a small business jet, but the aircraft fuselage sits on a motorhome chassis. Inside, the cabin keeps its red velvet and gold accents. Webb described it as a time capsule; he said the interior work was largely limited to vacuuming and cleaning the wood. Elvis mementos were added to the adapted cockpit.
AOPA’s photographs from Oshkosh show the conversion at its July 2024 public appearance. A later JetPhotos record includes a photograph dated April 6, 2025. Neither date establishes where the vehicle is now. AOPA credited its Oshkosh photograph to David Tulis. See AOPA’s July 2024 photographs and report; see the JetPhotos record for N440RM.
How was the aircraft turned into a motorhome?
AOPA reported that Webb joined the 1962 Lockheed JetStar fuselage to a 1999 Freightliner motorhome chassis. The result was built to travel on roads: it was driven about 1,600 miles to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, arriving July 20, 2024, rather than flown there or transported by truck. Webb described the scale of the effort to AOPA: “I spent the last 18 months and all of my life savings converting this thing into a road-going vehicle that we can now share with the entire world.”

Can the Elvis JetStar still fly?
No evidence in the cited reports suggests the converted vehicle is a flying aircraft. Its jet engines had been removed for display in a Tennessee museum. Webb told AOPA that noise-compliance issues, parts availability and other obstacles made a return to flight impractical. That is his explanation as reported by AOPA, not a separate regulatory finding. He summed up the prospect this way: “There’s just a myriad of lists of why this thing would never fly again.”
Which Elvis JetStar became the camper?
The converted airframe is identified as N440RM, serial number 5016, a Lockheed L-1329 JetStar 6. It is not N777EP, known as Hound Dog II, the separate JetStar associated with display at Graceland. The two aircraft should not be confused: the camper is not Hound Dog II. JetPhotos lists the converted aircraft as N440RM; Elvis.com.au’s aircraft history describes Hound Dog II.

When and where was it last documented?
The public debut documented by AOPA was at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in July 2024, after the road trip. The latest photograph identified here is dated April 6, 2025. These records establish that the conversion was completed and publicly shown, but they do not establish its location, roadworthiness or plans as of October 8, 2026.
