Elvis Presley’s best-documented major purchases include Graceland and two luxury aircraft, but the available records do not establish a reliable ranking of his ten most expensive purchases. In particular, the commonly cited $10–15 million figure for his planes was a 2015 estimate of their expected resale value—not what Elvis paid. Here is what can be said about the headline possessions, and where the prices remain unverified.
Why there is no reliable top-ten price ranking
A list of Elvis’s most expensive purchases sounds straightforward, but the figures available for his possessions measure different things: original purchase prices, refurbishment spending, expected resale values, and later auction results. They cannot be compared as though they were entries in a single ledger. The sources cited here do not provide consistent original prices for ten assets, so an exact top-ten order would imply more certainty than the records support.

The distinction matters particularly for celebrity memorabilia. An item associated with Elvis may have been given away, sold later, or valued decades after he acquired it. Graceland notes that he was known for giving away cars, cash, and jewelry; association alone does not prove that he bought or retained an item.
Graceland: his enduring home, but no verified price here
Elvis bought Graceland in 1957, and the Memphis estate became his enduring home. The Associated Press describes the property as set on about 14 acres. Graceland’s official FAQ says the mansion measured 10,266 square feet when he bought it. That size is not a purchase price, and the official material cited here does not establish a settled final price for the property.

Accordingly, Graceland can be identified as a major documented purchase, but it cannot be assigned a verified cost or placed precisely in a price ranking from these sources. Figures presented elsewhere as an asking price, a financing account, or a current valuation are not interchangeable with a verified final transaction price.
The Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II: aircraft and later valuation
The Lisa Marie
Graceland dates Elvis’s purchase of the Convair 880 named Lisa Marie to April 1975. He named the aircraft after his daughter. The official airplane page establishes the purchase date and identity, but does not give an original purchase price.

Hound Dog II and the 2015 estimate
A 2015 report said Elvis bought both the Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II in 1975, and that he spent more on refurbishing the aircraft than the Lisa Marie’s purchase cost. The report cited an expected auction range of $10–15 million for the two jets. That was an anticipated resale range at the time, not Elvis’s original outlay, not a refurbishment total, and not a confirmed sale price. It therefore cannot be used to rank what he spent.
A later auction price is not Elvis’s purchase price
Graceland’s 2018 auction report records a diamond and platinum ring gifted to Linda Thompson selling for $27,500. That figure is the ring’s later auction result. It does not establish what Elvis paid for it, and because the ring was a gift, it should not be described as a documented purchase by him.

How to read claims about Elvis’s expensive possessions
- Original purchase price: what Elvis paid at acquisition; the cited official records do not establish this for Graceland or the Lisa Marie.
- Refurbishment spending: a separate expense, reported for the aircraft but not given as a comparable total in the cited account.
- Expected resale value: the $10–15 million range reported in 2015 for the two jets, not a purchase price or realized sale.
- Later auction result: the ring’s $27,500 sale in 2018, which belongs to the collectible’s later market history.
These distinctions leave a useful record of major possessions, but not the ten-item, price-ranked list implied by the headline. No reliable total for Elvis’s personal spending can be calculated from these separate figures.
