Elton John said he does not plan to tour again, explaining in a June 2024 interview that he and husband David Furnish want to be present as their sons enter their teenage years. John left open the possibility of a distant, one-off performance—but said touring was over.
Will Elton John ever tour again?
When Entertainment Tonight asked John in an interview published June 27, 2024, whether he planned to return to the road, he answered “no.” Recalling his remarks after the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour’s final concert in Stockholm, he said: “I will never be touring again, but I may do something in the future — a one-off thing — but that’s miles away.” Entertainment Tonight reported the interview and quote.

That leaves room for a possible one-off appearance someday; it is not a promise never to perform live again. John’s statement was specifically about touring.
Why does he want to be present for his sons?
Furnish said their sons were entering their teenage years and that the couple did not want to miss that period. “We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It’s sort of a key decade, I think, in a child’s life,” he told Entertainment Tonight. He also said that after John had spent decades touring, it was nice to have time at home with family.

ABC News’ June 28, 2024 report likewise described the family priority and distinguished the decision to stop touring from John’s ability to keep making music. The interview’s references to his sons’ ages and to his projects and weekly radio shows reflected the context in 2024, not a current update.

The tour began in North America on September 10, 2018, and concluded in Stockholm in July 2023. John said the final show ended on the high he wanted: “We went out on the biggest high, just the way I wanted to, and there’s no going back [after] that.”

In a January 2024 announcement, John’s official website described the five-year tour as 330 shows, from the first performance in Allentown in 2018 to the final show in Stockholm. Entertainment Tonight reported that the tour played to more than 6.25 million fans across the U.K., Europe, North America and Australia. These are separate measures of the tour’s scale; they do not change the personal reasons John and Furnish gave for ending it.
John’s official announcement also introduced the full-color book Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life on Tour, featuring tour photography and other material, with a foreword by Furnish. The announcement was published on January 24, 2024.
