Two published analyses found frequent race-related activity on Elon Musk’s X account: The Washington Post counted about 850 posts over seven months through mid-April 2026, while The Guardian documented 303 posts about race and immigration in a later 13-day period. The examples included Musk’s own statements as well as reposts and replies amplifying claims about threats to white people. The publications’ counts use different methods and time windows, and the latest detailed feed analysis here covers June 12, 2026—not the months since.

How often was Musk posting about race?

The Washington Post reported that about 850 of Musk’s X posts over seven months through mid-April 2026 were about race, or 6 percent of his posts in that period. Its analysis found race-related activity on 166 of 197 days from the previous October through mid-April. The Post’s classification included posts about race or racism, white people as a distinctive group, and European or majority-white countries potentially losing their character. The Washington Post’s April 24, 2026 report explains the analysis.

The Guardian’s January account used a different measure: it reported that Musk posted about race, threats to white people, race science or anti-immigrant conspiracy content on 26 of 31 days that month. In a separate count, it found 303 posts about race and immigration between May 31 and June 12, 2026, nearly three-quarters of them related to UK politics. It compared that total with 114 posts about SpaceX in the same period. These figures are not directly interchangeable: they cover different dates and topics, and the January finding measures days with relevant activity rather than the total number of posts. The Guardian reported the January findings on February 12; its UK-focused analysis was published July 4 and updated July 6, 2026.

What did the posts say?

Claims about white people and racial threat

The Washington Post described Musk posting that white people were a “rapidly dying minority” and asserting there had been “unrelenting hate and poisonous propaganda in the West against anyone White, straight or male.” It also reported that he agreed with a post presenting white people with a choice between being conquered and reclaiming their nations.

Replies and reposts that amplified other accounts

The Guardian’s January examples include Musk replying “some people really do” to a post claiming white people were to be eradicated, and writing “true” beneath a claim that white people would be slaughtered if they became a minority. The paper also described reposts of claims about “white genocide.” These examples matter in interpreting the record: some were Musk’s own short replies, while others were content created by accounts he amplified, not original statements written by him.

In its later UK-focused report, the Guardian placed the posts amid protests and political tension over race and immigration. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Musk had been “trying to whip up division” in British politics. That is Starmer’s criticism, not proof of Musk’s intent.

Why did commentators call the content racist?

The Washington Post’s report quoted Heidi Beirich, co-founder of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, saying: “As far as I can tell, Musk at this point agrees with standard talking points of white supremacy.” Ashley Jardina, an associate professor of public policy and politics at the University of Virginia and author of White Identity Politics, told the paper: “It’s just becoming more socially acceptable to express more overt and explicitly racist attitudes.” These are attributed expert assessments of the content and its wider significance; they do not establish Musk’s private intent.

The Post analyzed 65,918 posts from January 2023 to mid-April 2026, including 5,146 retweets and 31,663 replies. Its AI model considered post text, text extracted from images and relevant context in posts Musk replied to. The Post said manual assessment of a 400-post sample found 93 percent accuracy for its classifier. That is the publication’s reported evaluation, not an independent audit; the resulting count also depends on the Post’s definition of race-related material.

What has Musk said in response?

The Guardian reported that Musk has repeatedly denied being racist or antisemitic and said he does not advocate violence. In response to a question about why he spends time in culture-war debates during the May–June period, he wrote: “Nothing else matters if civilization falls.” Those statements provide his reported response; they do not resolve how readers or experts interpret the posts.

What the dates do—and do not—show

The latest detailed feed analysis cited here covers May 31 through June 12, 2026. It documents a specific period of activity and a UK-heavy mix of race and immigration posts. It does not establish whether the pattern continued after June 12 or describe Musk’s posting activity through October 8, 2026.
