What condition did Musk set?
On February 26, 2025, Musk replied to an X user calling for him to sit down with Stewart: “I will do it if the show airs unedited,” The Daily Beast reported. The Daily Show’s official account responded, “we’d be delighted!”

The condition was that the interview be broadcast without editing. The show’s response welcomed Musk’s offer, but it did not confirm a booking. The Daily Beast reported that Comedy Central had no concrete plans for an appearance at that point.
How did Jon Stewart respond?
On the March 3, 2025, episode, Stewart said that in-studio interviews normally air unedited and accepted Musk’s condition. “So, sure,” he said, according to The Daily Beast’s report. Stewart also said the conversation could run for 15 minutes, an hour, or two hours.

The Daily Beast reported that Stewart noted Musk had called him a “propagandist” and questioned his impartiality. That was part of the exchange around the offer; it does not establish why Musk did or did not pursue an appearance.

Not according to Stewart’s later account. On April 24, 2025, he said on his podcast that he had sent Musk a direct message asking whether their teams should arrange the interview, but received no reply. “I did DM him,” Stewart said. “And I got ghosted,” The Daily Beast reported.
