Video reports published in May 2023 showed Elon Musk dancing and speaking with attendees at Sundream Baja, a festival in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. N+ reported that he was there to see Rüfüs Du Sol. Calling his dancing “awkward” is a subjective description, not an independently verifiable fact.
Where was Elon Musk dancing in Mexico?
N+ reported on May 15, 2023, that Musk had attended Sundream Baja 2023 in Los Cabos the previous weekend to see Rüfüs Du Sol. Its account connects the footage to that festival setting. N+’s report describes him dancing and talking with people there.
Telediario México also reported on May 15 that video showed Musk dancing among people inside a nightclub in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. Its report provides a contemporaneous account of the footage, but the available reports do not establish a precise venue name.
What does the footage show—and what remains uncertain?
Contemporaneous coverage describes Musk dancing and interacting with people at the event. N+’s account identifies Rüfüs Du Sol as the act he attended to see, but the reports do not identify a specific song heard in each circulating clip.

- Reported setting: Sundream Baja in Los Cabos, according to N+.
- Recording date and time: not established by the cited reports. N+ said the appearance was the previous weekend in its May 15 story, but that does not authenticate when each clip was recorded.
- Clip provenance: the reports discuss video, but do not independently verify the origin of every reposted version.
Why was the dancing described as “awkward”?
“Awkward” is an editorial reaction, not a measurable description of the event. Futurism used the phrase in its May 17, 2023 headline, “Elon Musk Spotted Dancing Awkwardly in Mexico,” and its standfirst joked that Musk had moves “sort of.” Those are the publisher’s characterizations. Futurism’s report also connected the appearance with Musk’s upcoming meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The distinction matters: the footage reports establish that Musk was seen dancing, while whether his movements look awkward is a matter of opinion.
