On December 29, 2024, Elon Musk asked users of X, still commonly known as Twitter, to share more “positive, beautiful or informative” content. The request drew skeptical replies, including a terse response from Mark Cuban. Musk’s post asked for a change in what people publish; it did not literally tell them to “be nicer.”
What did Elon Musk post?
Musk wrote: “Please post a bit more positive, beautiful or informative content on this platform.” Futurism and WebProNews both dated the post to Sunday, December 29, 2024. Futurism reported the post, and WebProNews reproduced its wording and date.
How did people respond?
Futurism highlighted replies that challenged Musk’s appeal. Mark Cuban responded, “You first.” Another user wrote, “Too late. You created this cesspool. You own it.” Futurism also reported that other replies accused Musk of hypocrisy. These are examples selected in Futurism’s coverage, not a survey or measure of how X users overall reacted.
What was the context?
In its December 30, 2024 report, Futurism placed the request amid a contentious public debate about H-1B visas and Musk’s clashes with critics. That is the outlet’s account of the surrounding events; it does not establish that the debate caused Musk to post the appeal or reveal his private motive. Futurism’s report provides that framing.

Why the headline says “be nicer”
“Be nicer” is a shorthand characterization of the request, not Musk’s exact wording. His post asked users to publish more positive, beautiful, or informative material. The distinction matters: the documented event is a brief appeal about content, followed by some pointed responses—not evidence of a broader change in platform conditions or a representative verdict from users.
