Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery
Stella Luna is Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery’s oldest child. A representative confirmed that she was born in Los Angeles on September 15, 2009. Contemporary reporting gave her full public name as Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery.
Pompeo has occasionally included Stella in public-facing appearances. Stella was identified as her mother’s date at the 2023 Emmy Awards, an appearance covered in January 2024. In a People profile published in March 2025, Stella was described as 15 and was present while Pompeo took part in the interview.
Those reports provide a limited public glimpse of Stella but do not establish reliable information about her schooling, personal interests, friendships or future plans. Such details should not be inferred from occasional appearances.
Sienna May
Sienna May is Pompeo and Ivery’s second child. Pompeo announced her arrival on October 2, 2014, and said that Sienna had been born via surrogate. She also thanked her Shondaland colleagues for helping the family keep the first weeks private. ABC News and the Los Angeles Times reported the announcement and identified the baby as Sienna.

Contemporary coverage places Sienna’s birth approximately two months before Pompeo’s October announcement. That supports an approximate August 2014 birth period, but the reliable sources reviewed do not establish a precise day. It is therefore more accurate to say that Sienna was born in 2014—or around August 2014—rather than publish an exact birthday.
Sienna has appeared with her mother at public events. ABC News reported that Pompeo and Sienna attended the Michael Kors show during New York Fashion Week on February 15, 2023.
Sienna was not present at Pompeo’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles on April 29, 2025. ABC News and E! reported that Stella and Eli attended with their parents and that Pompeo acknowledged Sienna’s absence. No reliable explanation was established, so her absence should not be presented as evidence of a family disagreement or any other private circumstance.
Eli Christopher
Eli Christopher is Pompeo and Ivery’s youngest child and their only publicly identified son. ABC News reported his arrival on December 29, 2016, citing confirmation from Pompeo’s representative to People. The report identified him as the couple’s third child.

The reliable contemporary coverage reviewed confirms that Eli was born in December 2016, but it does not consistently establish an exact day. Some later biographies list December 30, yet a primary birth announcement confirming that date was not established in the available reporting. “Born in December 2016” is therefore the safest formulation.
Eli appeared with Pompeo, Ivery and Stella at Pompeo’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on April 29, 2025. Event coverage identified him as 8 at the time, consistent with a December 2016 birth. He is 9 as of August 12, 2026.
What is publicly known about Pompeo’s family life?
Public reporting portrays the family as close, but it offers relatively few details about the children themselves. Pompeo has spoken more generally about family routines and motherhood rather than providing extensive biographical information about Stella, Sienna or Eli.
A 2022 Architectural Digest home-tour report described family activities including watching movies together and making s’mores. It also discussed a home environment featuring artwork connected to Black history and Black artists. These details support a modest description of family life, but they do not justify assumptions about the children’s personalities, education, religion, medical histories, residences or future careers.

Why are there differing details about the children?
The main discrepancies involve dates and birth circumstances:
- Sienna’s birthday: Her birth in 2014 and birth via surrogate were publicly reported, but the precise day was not established in the sources reviewed.
- Eli’s birthday: Reliable contemporary reporting confirms December 2016. Some later secondary sources give December 30, but that exact date was not independently confirmed by a primary source reviewed for this article.
- Birth via surrogate: Reporting clearly identifies Sienna’s birth via surrogate. It is not accurate to say that all three children were born via surrogate, because equivalent authoritative reporting was not established for Stella or Eli.
Public appearances and privacy
Pompeo’s children have occasionally accompanied her to major public events, including the Emmy Awards, New York Fashion Week and her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. These appearances confirm their family relationship, but they do not amount to a complete public biography.
Stella, Sienna and Eli are minors or were minors during the events described, and the available reporting appropriately focuses on names, birth information and limited appearances. There is no reliable basis here for identifying their schools, neighborhoods, friends or private routines. A careful account of Pompeo’s family should distinguish documented public appearances from speculation about their lives away from cameras.
