Ellen DeGeneres was seen with gray hair in Montecito, California, on January 14, 2025, a change from the platinum-blonde pixie associated with her public image. But the gray shade is not her latest documented look: E! News reported that she was blonde again at a Montecito sighting on December 27, 2025.
What changed in Ellen DeGeneres’s hair?
The January 2025 sighting showed DeGeneres with gray hair instead of her familiar blonde pixie. E! News described it as a departure from her signature look in its report, published January 14 and updated January 15, 2025. Read E! News’s January report.
The available reporting establishes the visible shade and the date and location of the sighting. It does not say whether the gray came from natural growth, salon color, or another deliberate change, and it does not identify a stylist or product.

What is known—and what is not
The reports document several visible changes rather than a simple switch from blonde to gray: a darker look was reported in November 2024, gray in January 2025, and blonde again in December 2025. The sources do not establish why DeGeneres went gray or how the shade was achieved. Coverage of the separate 2024 darker-color episode discussed a coloring attempt that went wrong when a different hairstylist tried to speed it up; that account is not an explanation for the 2025 gray look.
