No fue una inundación ni una interrupción del servicio: pasajeros vestidos para el invierno, pero sin pantalones, participaron en una acción de comedia organizada por Improv Everywhere. La iniciativa, conocida como The No Pants Subway Ride, comenzó en Nueva York en 2002.
En qué consistía el viaje sin pantalones
La premisa era sencilla: varias personas subían al metro en distintas paradas durante el invierno con abrigos, gorros, bufandas y guantes, pero sin pantalones. Fingían no conocerse y se comportaban como si su vestimenta fuera completamente normal. La escena, deliberadamente absurda, buscaba sorprender y divertir a quienes viajaban en el vagón.
Improv Everywhere describe el propósito como hacer reír y sonreír a otras personas, sin una agenda adicional. La organización explica la acción en su página oficial sobre el evento.
De siete participantes a una acción internacional
Según Improv Everywhere, la primera edición se celebró en Nueva York en 2002 y reunió a siete participantes. El evento se repitió cada enero en la ciudad hasta 2020, de acuerdo con la historia publicada por la organización.

¿Se sigue celebrando en Nueva York?
La historia oficial consultada documenta ediciones neoyorquinas hasta enero de 2020, pero no confirma que se hayan reanudado después ni anuncia una fecha futura. Por eso, no se puede presentar el viaje como una cita vigente o anual en Nueva York.

Las participaciones fuera de Nueva York tampoco deben confundirse con una única convocatoria central: Improv Everywhere señala que los eventos regionales son organizados de forma independiente. Una actividad local requiere confirmación de sus propios organizadores.

“Se inunda de pasajeros sin pantalones” es una imagen periodística para describir la presencia de muchas personas en el metro; no significa que hubiera una inundación literal. La cobertura de People en Español de 2018 usó un titular prácticamente idéntico. El nombre empleado por el organizador es The No Pants Subway Ride, que puede traducirse como “el viaje en metro sin pantalones”.
