Who was Eileen Fulton?
Fulton was born Margaret Elizabeth McLarty in Asheville on September 13, 1933. She graduated from Greensboro College in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in music, then moved to New York to pursue acting. Her obituary says she studied acting with Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg, studied dance with Martha Graham, and performed in the outdoor drama The Lost Colony before moving to New York. Funeral-home obituary.
Why was she known as the star of As the World Turns?
Fulton began playing Lisa Miller on As the World Turns in 1960. She remained associated with the character, whose surnames changed over the years, through the CBS series’ end in 2010, though her appearances included interruptions. The Los Angeles Times describes her run as spanning 1960 to 2010 with only a few breaks; that does not mean she appeared in every episode or without interruption. Los Angeles Times, July 20, 2025.
#1 Best Overall
- The first of the As The World Turns DVD's to be released. Cream of the crop.
- These episodes only aired once (ever) and they're not availabe online (no streaming or downloads).
- BVDM hired an ATWT expert to choose the 20 best episodes, ever. Here they are!
- Althought I have to add that not all 20 are ones I would choose (all great, memorable episodes but top 20 is major).
- Released by BVDM in 2011 and no longer "in print."
The role made Fulton a familiar presence in daytime television for decades. The Television Academy identifies her as best known for Lisa Miller and records her 2004 Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. The Los Angeles Times also reports that she was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame in 1998. Television Academy.
