The video continues the fictional story that began in “Lego House.” Grint’s character tries to settle into a normal routine, attends support meetings and starts a relationship. His fixation returns as he spots Sheeran in people and places around him, building to a wedding where Sheeran appears in multiple roles. Rolling Stone’s account identifies Emil Nava as the director. Rolling Stone’s video report describes the premise and credits Nava.
Why Rupert Grint returns
Sheeran told Vogue he had wanted to make another video with Grint but waited for the right concept. He pictured Grint “surrounded by all different versions of me—in character—and to see his head spinning,” aiming for a chaotic, humorous effect. Vogue’s interview with Sheeran covers the idea behind the reunion.
Screen Suffolk reproduced a statement Sheeran posted on social media: “I hadn’t worked with @rupertgrint in 14 years since Lego house, so didn’t know if he’d say yes to this idea. But I’m so glad he did. It’s such a fun, bonkers video. Longest video shoot I had ever done at that time, and deffo the most costume changes.” Screen Suffolk’s account also details the local shoot.
