Earbits returned online in June 2014 after a funding shortfall forced it to announce a cessation of operations. The company credited an unnamed strategic partner with providing the resources for its restart; the available announcements do not identify that backer as “Angel.”
Why did Earbits go offline?
Earbits said it had announced that it would cease operations after running short of funding. By June 2014, the music-discovery service had been dark for five days, according to RAIN News’ June 20 account. The company’s own announcement the next day said it had secured new capital and planned to relaunch on the web and iOS. Earbits’ June 21, 2014 announcement described the arrangement as a strategic partnership.
Who brought Earbits back online?
The identity of the 2014 backer is not established in the available announcements. Earbits CEO Joey Flores called it a “strategic partnership” that would provide resources and capabilities for the company’s vision of global digital media. RAIN News likewise described the investor as unnamed. Neither source identifies the partner as “Angel,” and the evidence does not establish whether the 2014 backer was connected to You42, which acquired Earbits the following year.
What was Earbits’ music service?
Earbits presented itself as a commercial-free streaming service that connected music discovery with promotion for artists, labels, products, and live events. Its Priority Airtime program let labels, bands, and concert promoters pay for increased exposure in targeted music channels. The model therefore combined listening with a promotional platform: listeners could discover music while artists and industry partners could seek more visibility.

What happened after the 2014 restart?
You42 acquired Earbits in 2015
On September 24, 2015, Earbits announced that Atlanta-based You42, Inc. had acquired the company. The acquisition came more than a year after the June 2014 return and should not be confused with the unnamed strategic partnership that funded that restart. In the acquisition announcement, Earbits co-founder Joey Flores said You42 acted quickly to bring the service back online.

The company’s reported audience figures were historical
The 2015 acquisition announcement said that, by June 2014, Earbits had more than 300,000 registered listeners and 13,000 artists across 600 labels. The same release’s company boilerplate listed 14,500 artists across 700 record labels, more than 300,000 registered listeners, and 500,000 mobile installs, but did not separately date those boilerplate totals. These figures are company-reported historical claims; they do not establish Earbits’ current audience or reach. See the September 24, 2015 acquisition announcement.
How did later Earbits offerings differ?
A You42 press archive later described Earbits Stations as genre-based listening that generated shuffled 100-track playlists, and separately described Earbits Music as a network for curated discovery and multimedia engagement. Those archive entries have no visible dates, so they show how You42 described later offerings but do not establish when they operated or whether the service is available today. The archive is at You42’s press page.

What can be established about Earbits today?
The documented history establishes a funding-related shutdown announcement, a partner-backed return in June 2014, and a You42 acquisition in September 2015. It does not establish Earbits’ present-day operating status, current catalog, current ownership beyond that historical acquisition announcement, or app availability. The later You42 archive descriptions are not enough to confirm that listeners can use the service now.
