She had heard former NFL player Danny Amendola might be part of the cast and thought the season would finally bring her the football-player partner she wanted.
Why Johnson hoped for an NFL partner
On September 26, 2024, Johnson discussed the pairing on The Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast. She explained that the professional dancers do not know their celebrity partners ahead of time; the show keeps the assignments secret to preserve their reactions.

Johnson had heard Graziadei’s name mentioned, but she had also heard that Amendola might be involved. As she put it, “So I kind of heard Danny was going to be involved, and I was like, this is my year. I’m going to get the NFL guy.”
Her comment about being “a little sad” was specifically about the expectation she had formed. “I was a little sad because I’ve been promised, not promised, but like I’ve never had a football player through my time on the show, I’ve never had a football player,” she said on the podcast. What she said about working with Graziadei
Johnson recognized Graziadei when he arrived, although she had not watched his season of The Bachelor. Her sister was a fan and had told her good things about him. Johnson said those impressions held up once they started rehearsing: they connected quickly, had fun, and she found him talented, humble, and kind.
“He is one of the most genuine humans I’ve ever met,” Johnson said. She also called it “such a pleasure to work with him.” Those later comments make clear that her initial disappointment concerned the partner she had imagined, not dissatisfaction with Graziadei personally.

Who was paired with Danny Amendola?
Amendola was paired with professional dancer Witney Carson, according to Us Weekly’s October 1, 2024 account of Johnson’s remarks. The report likewise frames Johnson’s sadness as disappointment that she had not received the NFL player she hoped to dance with, rather than a negative reaction to Graziadei.
