Dunkin’s Super Bowl LX commercial, “Good Will Dunkin’,” turned a Good Will Hunting parody into a supposedly lost 1995 sitcom pilot. Ben Affleck played the mathematically gifted Will, while Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Jason Alexander, Ted Danson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Jaleel White, Jasmine Guy and Tom Brady filled out the nostalgia-heavy cast.
The commercial was not a reunion of the original casts of Friends, Seinfeld, Cheers or the other sitcoms associated with its performers. It was an ensemble of familiar 1990s television faces assembled for a fictional Cambridge Dunkin’ workplace comedy.
Who appeared in Dunkin’s “Good Will Dunkin’” commercial?
| Performer | Role or connection in the ad | Best-known 1990s association |
|---|---|---|
| Ben Affleck | Played Will, a South Boston Dunkin’ employee whose mathematical talent becomes the store’s big discovery. | Good Will Hunting; Affleck also co-wrote and starred in the original film. |
| Jennifer Aniston | Played one of the sitcom-style characters in the ensemble. | Friends |
| Matt LeBlanc | Appeared as another member of the ensemble. | Friends |
| Jason Alexander | Played the Dunkin’ store manager who recognizes Will’s unusual ability. | Seinfeld |
| Ted Danson | Appeared as one of the commercial’s recognizable television personalities. | Cheers |
| Alfonso Ribeiro | Joined the sitcom-inspired cast. | The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air |
| Jaleel White | Joined the ensemble. | Family Matters, in which he played Steve Urkel |
| Jasmine Guy | Appeared among the commercial’s 1990s television performers. | A Different World |
| Tom Brady | Made the surprise appearance at the end as Jennifer Aniston’s character’s new boyfriend. | New England Patriots and Boston-area sports nostalgia |
What is the ad’s connection to Good Will Hunting?
“Good Will Dunkin’” borrows the central idea and Boston-and-Cambridge setting of the 1997 drama Good Will Hunting, but sends it in a much broader comic direction. Affleck plays a fictional Will whose extraordinary mathematical ability is discovered while he is working at a Dunkin’ restaurant.
The commercial presents itself as a never-aired 1995 sitcom pilot. Its period styling, ensemble reactions, sitcom pacing and laugh-track sensibility are designed to make the spot feel like a rediscovered piece of 1990s television rather than a conventional modern advertisement.

For readers who want to revisit the film being spoofed, the Good Will Hunting Blu-ray is the original 1997 movie—not a physical release of the Dunkin’ commercial. The ad’s joke depends on viewers recognizing Affleck’s connection to the film and the contrast between its serious dramatic premise and the deliberately broad sitcom treatment.
The Munchkins Fibonacci-sequence joke
One of the commercial’s clearest product gags involves Will arranging Dunkin’ Munchkins donut-hole treats into a Fibonacci sequence. The store manager, played by Jason Alexander, interprets the arrangement as evidence that Will is a genius.
That moment combines the mathematical premise associated with Good Will Hunting with a distinctly Dunkin’ visual. Instead of presenting Will solving an abstract academic problem, the ad turns the restaurant’s own food into the object of his mathematical display.
Why does the commercial say it is from 1995?
The fictional 1995 date serves two purposes. First, it allows Dunkin’ to imitate the look and feel of a supposedly forgotten VHS-era sitcom. Second, it connects to the brand’s claim that 1995 was the year it first put iced coffee in the spotlight.
The commercial’s backstory says that Dunkin’ iced coffee was accidentally “invented” in a Cambridge store. That origin story gives the ad a product connection while keeping the fictional pilot’s setting tied to Massachusetts and to the cultural world surrounding Affleck’s film.

Was Matt Damon in the Dunkin’ Super Bowl commercial?
No. Matt Damon was not reported as appearing in “Good Will Dunkin’.” The commercial used Affleck, rather than Damon, to play its version of Will. That choice is part of the joke: Affleck co-wrote and starred in Good Will Hunting, but the ad recasts the film’s premise as a Dunkin’ sitcom.
It is therefore inaccurate to describe the spot as a new Damon-and-Affleck reunion or to say that Damon reprised Will Hunting. Affleck is the performer carrying the parody’s central role.
Was this a Friends, Seinfeld or 1990s sitcom reunion?
No. The ad assembled individual actors associated with several popular sitcoms; it did not reunite their original casts. Aniston and LeBlanc are both recognized from Friends, Alexander from Seinfeld, Danson from Cheers, Ribeiro from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, White from Family Matters and Guy from A Different World.

What role did Tom Brady play?
Brady appears as the surprise cameo near the end of the commercial. He is introduced as Jennifer Aniston’s character’s new boyfriend, adding a final Massachusetts-area reference to a cast already built around Boston and New England associations.
Brady’s appearance also changes the rhythm of the spot: after the audience has been introduced to the sitcom ensemble, the former New England Patriots quarterback supplies the last recognizable reveal.
How Dunkin’ promoted the campaign
Dunkin’ teased “Good Will Dunkin’” as if it were a forgotten VHS discovery before the Super Bowl broadcast. The longer Super Bowl spot then revealed the fictional pilot and its cast.
The campaign continued Dunkin’s collaboration with Artists Equity. Dunkin’ said the commercial was Affleck’s fourth Dunkin’ advertisement to air during the Super Bowl broadcast in which he served as director.

The free-coffee offer
Dunkin’ also promoted a free-coffee offer using the code GOODWILLDUNKIN in the Dunkin’ app. CBS Boston reported the headline figure as 1.995 million free coffees. However, that number should not be read as an unrestricted giveaway: Dunkin’s detailed terms included member, ordering, frequency, beverage and duration restrictions.
Availability and eligibility can change, so viewers should check the offer’s terms in the Dunkin’ app rather than assume that the code guarantees a free drink for every customer.
1990s-inspired merchandise
The campaign also included limited-edition merchandise inspired by the 1990s. Dunkin’ confirmed the merchandise concept, but the available campaign information does not provide a complete catalog or establish that every item remains available. There is not enough evidence to identify a specific Super Bowl tumbler or mug as a currently stable product listing.

- Sitcom nostalgia: The cast recalls a range of major 1990s television comedies.
- Boston nostalgia: Cambridge, South Boston and New England sports associations give the spot a regional identity.
- Brand nostalgia: The 1995 framing and iced-coffee origin story tie the fictional history back to Dunkin’.
- Product comedy: Munchkins become the material for the Fibonacci-sequence gag.
The result is less a traditional sequel or reunion than a deliberately overstuffed cultural mash-up: a serious Boston movie premise reimagined as a lost workplace sitcom and then filled with actors whose previous television roles provide the punchlines.
