Is Dune: Part Three based on Dune Messiah?
Yes. The Abu Dhabi authority identifies the film as based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah. Denis Villeneuve and Brian K. Vaughan are credited as screenwriters on the official film site. What has Denis Villeneuve said about the trilogy’s final film?
At CinemaCon in April 2026, Villeneuve characterized the third film as a “thriller” that is “more intense and definitely more emotional” than the earlier films, according to Associated Press reporting. The AP report also said Chalamet discussed Paul becoming his worst vision 17 years after Part Two.
