Sullivan’s response followed Bell’s disclosure in the docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. She was Bell’s on-screen mother, not his biological mother.
What Nancy Sullivan said about Drake Bell
In an Instagram caption reported by TheWrap on March 21, 2024, Sullivan addressed Bell’s account and her affection for the young actors she had worked with. She wrote: “They weren’t my real kids, but I’ll always love them. It broke my heart into a million pieces to hear just how much Drake was holding inside while we were working together.”

Sullivan also said she was “both devastated and proud” to see Bell sit down on camera and tell his story. She added that past abuse does not define a person or have the right to rule their life, and expressed hope for Bell’s healing and future. Her statement was a response to his public disclosure; it was not a claim that the abuse happened while Drake & Josh was being made.
What Bell disclosed, and when it happened
In Quiet on Set, Bell identified himself as the previously unnamed minor in the child sexual abuse case involving Brian Peck. Bell said Peck sexually abused him when he was 15. TIME reported that Peck had worked as a dialogue coach on The Amanda Show and All That, and that Bell told his mother about the abuse after Peck was being considered for Drake & Josh.

That reported sequence places the abuse before Drake & Josh, not during production of the sitcom. TIME’s account says Bell eventually told his mother and police. The disclosure in the docuseries brought his account to a wider audience.
What happened in Brian Peck’s case
TVLine reported in March 2024 that Peck pleaded no contest to two child sexual abuse charges, was sentenced to 16 months in prison, and was ordered to register as a sex offender in 2004. ABC News Australia reported that 41 letters were written to the judge in support of Peck; that figure is the outlet’s reported count.
How Josh Peck fits into the story
Brian Peck is not related to Josh Peck, Drake Bell’s Drake & Josh co-star. The Los Angeles Times reported in March 2025 that Bell and Josh Peck later discussed how the abuse affected their friendship and their work together. That later conversation is distinct from Sullivan’s 2024 response.
