There is no official, definitive ranking of Dragon Ball’s strongest Saiyans. This is an editorial ranking of nine individual characters at their strongest relevant demonstrated forms, with half-Saiyans included and fusions excluded. The top four have the clearest official evidence; placements farther down are more provisional because the available official sources do not establish a complete nine-way comparison.
How this ranking works
Strength comparisons depend on the form a character can reach, the opponents they have faced, and how consistently they can control their power. Continuity matters, too: a film feat does not by itself settle a character’s place against later manga versions. These are comparison principles, not an official scoring system.
The uncertainty is especially clear at the top. In an official interview, Dragon Ball Super manga artist Toyotarou discussed the question of whether Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, or Broly is strongest. The interviewer noted that the story had not made its number one clear, despite a scene in which Vegeta beats Goku. Toyotarou said the showdown on Beerus’ planet in Volume 24 was drawn after he asked Akira Toriyama about that very question. The exchange frames a matchup; it does not deliver a definitive ranking. Read the official Toyotarou interview.
The nine strongest Saiyans, ranked
1. Gohan (Beast)
Beast Gohan belongs at the top of any defensible current-era ranking. Official Dragon Ball material features the transformation, and the official Volume 24 announcement highlights his “epic battle” against Ultra Instinct Goku. That establishes him as a serious top-tier contender, not as the confirmed winner of the matchup or the undisputed strongest Saiyan. 2. Goku (Ultra Instinct)
Ultra Instinct Goku is the other central contender in the Volume 24 clash. The official announcement presents the fight as a major confrontation, but does not say that Goku definitively surpasses Gohan or loses to him. His placement just behind Beast Gohan is therefore an editorial ordering of two closely matched candidates, not a settled result.
3. Vegeta
Vegeta remains in the leading group, but the cited official discussion offers no final verdict on whether he ranks above Goku or Gohan. The interviewer points to a scene where Vegeta beats Goku, then explicitly questions whether that settles who is number one; Toyotarou’s response keeps the broader comparison open. This ranking places Vegeta third without treating one scene as a universal measure.
Rank #2
- Evolve – Dragon Ball Super: Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku action figure stands at approximately 5” tall with 27 points of articulation allowing infinite posing and display options.
- The figure was created with exceptional details to look exactly like the characters in the popular anime series, Dragon Ball Super

4. Broly
Broly’s film portrayal gives him the most striking evidence among the next tier. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, he uses Great Ape power in his normal body to overwhelm Goku and Vegeta in Super Saiyan God forms. In Super Saiyan form, he knocks away a combined attack from Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta, and later awakens Super Saiyan Full Power while fighting Gogeta. These are substantial film-specific feats, but they do not settle his standing against the latest manga versions of the top three.
His potential is not the same as reliable control. The official character feature describes him as having extraordinary latent potential and says he trains under Whis alongside Goku and Vegeta, working to stay calm during combat. 5. Future Trunks
Future Trunks is a strong pick for the broader Saiyan top nine, but the official sources cited here do not provide a direct comparison that fixes his place relative to Broly or the three leaders. His fifth position is a provisional editorial choice, not a ranking confirmed by a creator statement or an official chart.
6. Goku Black
Goku Black belongs in a wider list of formidable Saiyan-bodied fighters, but his identity and continuity make direct comparisons easy to overstate. The official material cited for this ranking does not establish where his strongest showing falls against Future Trunks, Kale, or the top tier, so sixth place should be read as a broad placement rather than a precise measurement.
Rank #4
- Welcome the fierce battles of Dragon Ball into your world with these superior 6.
7. Kale
Kale is included among the strongest Saiyans because of her formidable power in the Dragon Ball Super anime continuity. The official sources used here do not provide a comparable, current-form matchup to support a tighter placement, so seventh is tentative and continuity-specific rather than a claim about the manga’s present-day hierarchy.
8. Caulifla
Caulifla makes the list as a powerful Saiyan from the anime continuity, but the cited official material does not resolve her position against Kale, Cabba, or characters whose strongest forms are shown in other continuities. Eighth reflects a broad editorial ordering, not a definitive result.

9. Cabba
Cabba rounds out this broader list. The official evidence cited for the leading contenders does not support an exact comparison between Cabba and the other lower-ranked entries, so ninth is the least certain placement here. The lower six positions should not be mistaken for an official or fully verified strength ladder.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So, who is the strongest Saiyan?
The best-supported answer is that Beast Gohan and Ultra Instinct Goku are leading contenders, with Vegeta and Broly also in the top conversation. The cited official sources leave their precise order unresolved. Broly’s film feats are exceptional, but they cannot alone determine how he compares with later manga forms. For a specifically current Dragon Ball Super manga ranking, the official evidence cited here is not enough to substantiate exact placements for the lower six characters.
For readers following the Gohan-versus-Goku comparison, the official Dragon Ball site’s Volume 24 announcement highlights their battle. It is a useful point of reference, not a published verdict about who is stronger.
