The January 25, 2026 announcement places the story after the anime’s Universe Survival Arc and pits Goku and Vegeta alongside the Galactic Patrol against Planet-Eater Moro.
What was announced?
Toei Animation announced the new Dragon Ball Super project during Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri in Japan on January 25, 2026. Toei describes it as the franchise’s newest arc and says it follows the anime’s Universe Survival Arc, which aired from 2015 to 2018. Toei Animation’s announcement calls it “the story following the ‘Universe Survival Arc’ of the anime Dragon Ball Super, which aired between 2015 and 2018.”
The announcement establishes that the project is in production; it does not give a premiere date, viewing platform, territory schedule, episode count, or complete production staff list. Shueisha confirmed the new anime under this title in a news post dated January 29, 2026, and noted the manga’s serialization in V Jump. Shueisha’s announcement likewise does not provide release or distribution details.
What is the story of The Galactic Patrol?
Toei’s description says Goku and Vegeta will work with members of the Galactic Patrol, the galaxy’s peacekeepers, against the new enemy Planet-Eater Moro. The teaser visual shows Goku and Vegeta wearing outfits marked with the Patrol’s symbol. Toei also credits Akira Toriyama for original work, story, and character design.

How does it connect to the anime and manga?
The announced anime story follows the anime’s Universe Survival Arc. Its counterpart in the Dragon Ball Super manga is known as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. The official Dragon Ball event recap says that manga arc picks up where the Universe Survival Arc left off. The event recap provides that connection.
That means the anime announcement is not the same thing as a new manga announcement: the manga storyline already exists, while the newly announced project is an anime production adapting the story. The official sources cited here do not specify which manga volumes cover the arc.
