Dragon Ball’s anime is returning in 2026, but not all at once: Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is an enhanced edition of the earlier story, set to premiere in Japan on October 11, while the separate continuation Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol has been announced as in production without a release date. These announcements confirm anime projects—not a date for the Dragon Ball Super manga to resume publication.
What is actually returning?
There are two distinct anime projects behind the talk of Dragon Ball’s return. One revisits the Beerus story with substantial changes; the other continues the anime’s story after its Universe Survival Arc. Their status and timing are different.
| Project | What it is | Confirmed timing |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon Ball Super: Beerus | An enhanced edition with newly added and redrawn cuts and a reconstructed narrative. | Japan premiere on October 11, 2026; broadcasting and streaming begin in October. Platforms and other regions are not specified in the announcement. |
| Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol | A continuation after the anime’s Universe Survival Arc, adapting the story known in the manga as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. | Announced as in production on January 25, 2026; no premiere date was given. |
Beerus is an enhanced edition, not a new continuation
Toei Animation describes Dragon Ball Super: Beerus as an “ENHANCED edition” featuring newly added and redrawn cuts alongside a reconstructed narrative. The project revisits the Beerus story rather than moving the anime forward into the next arc. Toei says the changes aim to present the story more faithfully to the manga. Toei Animation’s project announcement describes the new material and narrative reconstruction.
The official Dragon Ball site gives the Japan premiere as October 11, 2026, and says broadcasting and streaming start in October. It does not name a streaming service or specify availability outside Japan. Check a local official listing for platform and territory details rather than assuming a service. The official Dragon Ball announcement provides the premiere information.

The Galactic Patrol is the actual continuation—but has no date yet
Toei announced Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol as in production at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri on January 25, 2026. The story follows the anime’s Universe Survival Arc and adapts the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc from the manga. Toei’s announcement establishes the project and its place in the story, but gives no release date. Toei Animation’s announcement identifies it as the story following the anime’s Universe Survival Arc.
The distinction matters if you are searching for the “return of the manga.” An anime adaptation announcement is not confirmation that the manga publication schedule has restarted. The official material cited for these projects does not establish a manga return date.

Other Dragon Ball news: Xenoverse 3 is planned for 2027
The early-2026 news also included a game announcement, but it is separate from the anime projects. Bandai Namco first announced the Dragon Ball Game Project “AGE 1000” on January 26, 2026. On April 20, it unveiled the project as Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, planned for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. It is not an early-2026 release. Bandai Namco’s AGE 1000 announcement and its Xenoverse 3 announcement cover the reveal and planned timing.
