The finale says Goku had trained toward it after the Majin Buu fight, while Neva awakened his ability to use it in his child-like body. The distinction matters: an ability drawn out under particular circumstances is not the same as a confirmed, always-available transformation.
What DAIMA says about Goku’s Super Saiyan 4
Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 debut is in episode 18 of Dragon Ball DAIMA. In its finale report, ComicBook.com says Goku explains that he had trained toward the form in the background after the battle with Majin Buu, and that Neva awakened his ability to use it while Goku was in his child-like body. That account supports both prior training and Neva’s intervention; it does not say Neva permanently gave Goku a power he can activate at will.
Series director Aya Komaki’s explanation, reported by ComicBook.com from a Japanese lore booklet through a fan translation, describes the episode’s transformation as Neva drawing out Goku’s ability. Komaki said the scene was meant to feel less like Goku “psyching himself up” and more like “Neva’s ability enters inside Goku (Mini) and blossoms inside Goku (Mini).” The production explanation is about how the transformation is triggered and portrayed in that scene, not a rule for every later appearance.
Can Goku turn Super Saiyan 4 whenever?
Not on the evidence established in DAIMA. The finale’s explanation points to training, a child-like body, and Neva awakening the ability. Neither that account nor Komaki’s reported remarks confirm that Goku can transform on demand in any body, at any time, or in every later part of the franchise.

Executive director Akio Iyoku also reportedly said the transformation needed some form of growth or trigger within the story, as well as elements that would surprise viewers. His remarks, like Komaki’s, are relayed by ComicBook.com from a fan translation of the Japanese booklet. They support treating the transformation as a story event with a trigger, rather than proof of unrestricted access.
Why doesn’t Goku use Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball Super?
The available reporting does not give a definitive answer. The DAIMA finale has prompted the question of why the form is not shown in Dragon Ball Super, but the reporting does not resolve it. It would be speculation to claim that Goku definitely cannot use it there, or to offer a firm in-story explanation for its absence.

Toei Animation described DAIMA in a September 12, 2024 announcement as an original anime series based on a new Dragon Ball story and characters from Akira Toriyama. That official description is useful context, but it does not by itself settle how every event or transformation fits with Super. The safest answer is that the relationship remains unresolved by the cited statements.
How DAIMA’s version compares with Dragon Ball GT
The evidence here supports a limited comparison, not a complete account of how the two versions’ powers work. DAIMA frames Goku’s access around training and Neva drawing out his ability in his child-like body. Komaki’s reported comments also describe a deliberate visual treatment: because Super Saiyan 4 carries a red image, the animators added red elements to a Kamehameha that is usually blue.

Those details distinguish DAIMA’s presentation and trigger. They do not establish that its Super Saiyan 4 has the same origin, access rules, or power level as the form in Dragon Ball GT. The cited material does not support a more detailed rules or strength comparison.
