Dragon Ball DAIMA brings Super Saiyan 4 Goku into a new official Dragon Ball story, and official Dragon Ball product pages identify the DAIMA design by that name. That makes “Super Saiyan 4 is back” a fair headline. But “completely canon” goes further than the available official statements: they do not spell out exactly how DAIMA fits with Dragon Ball Super.
Did Dragon Ball DAIMA make Super Saiyan 4 canon?
In the practical sense that matters to many fans, yes: Super Saiyan 4 appears in DAIMA, an official Dragon Ball anime, and the franchise’s own merchandise names the form “Super Saiyan 4 Goku -DAIMA-.” Toei Animation USA described DAIMA as an original anime based on a new Dragon Ball story and characters from Akira Toriyama in its September 12, 2024 announcement. The official product naming independently confirms that the franchise markets this version as Super Saiyan 4.

The qualification is about what “canon” means. The official materials cited here do not declare that DAIMA is “completely canon,” define a single franchise-wide canon policy, or explain its precise continuity relationship to Dragon Ball Super. So the defensible conclusion is that Super Saiyan 4 is part of an official, Toriyama-originated Dragon Ball story in DAIMA—not that every continuity question has been settled.
How the official naming was established
There is a distinction between what the episodes call a form and what the franchise officially calls it elsewhere. A February 22, 2025 ComicBook.com report noted that DAIMA episodes had not explicitly used the name “Super Saiyan 4” at that point. Later official Dragon Ball product announcements used the name directly, including “Super Saiyan 4 Goku (Mini) -DAIMA-” and “S.H.Figuarts SUPER SAIYAN 4 SON GOKU -DAIMA-.” Those product titles are direct evidence of the official marketed name; by themselves, they are not a ruling on continuity.

What the DAIMA Super Saiyan 4 releases show
Official product announcements document the form across distinct DAIMA-themed releases. Their titles and descriptions help identify the character and presentation, but they do not establish power rankings or identical transformation mechanics with another series.

Is DAIMA’s form the same as GT’s Super Saiyan 4?
The available evidence supports a careful comparison, not a claim that the two versions are identical. DAIMA and Dragon Ball GT are different story contexts, and the DAIMA releases explicitly distinguish their version with the “-DAIMA-” label. The designs can be compared visually in the series and licensed products, but the cited official announcements do not establish that the transformations have identical mechanics.

For the same reason, the announcements do not answer whether DAIMA’s Super Saiyan 4 is stronger than Super Saiyan Blue, or how it would rank against other transformations. A product name, pose, or effect part is not evidence of a canonical power comparison.
What Toei’s announcement says about DAIMA
Toei Animation USA’s September 12, 2024 release called DAIMA an original anime based on a new Dragon Ball story and characters from Akira Toriyama. It also announced subtitled Crunchyroll streaming beginning October 11, 2024 in the United States, Canada, Latin America including Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and Southeast Asia. Those are historical launch details, not confirmation of current catalog availability or a statement defining the series’ place relative to Dragon Ball Super.

The clearest answer
Super Saiyan 4 Goku is back in an official Dragon Ball story, and official Dragon Ball merchandise identifies the DAIMA version by name. Calling that a return to official Dragon Ball is well supported. Calling the form “completely canon” without qualification implies more than the cited sources establish: they do not settle DAIMA’s exact continuity relationship with Super, nor do they establish a power ranking or identical mechanics with GT.
